| AN INTERVIEW WITH... RUSSELL FROM BEYOND ALL REASON. SO WHO IS IN BEYOND ALL REASON AND WHAT DOES EACH MEMBER DO? Paul Ventress (Venno) - vocals/guitars, Russell Hampshire - guitars, Nick Hutson - bass, Mike langley - drums HOW DID YOU ALL MEET AND COME TO FORM A BAND TOGETHER? We all met at school in York. WHAT DID YOU GET EACH OTHER FOR CHRISTMAS?! Nothing! HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC? Melodic rock scream-core WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES? Def Lepard / Iron Maiden / Meshuggah / Biffy Clyro / Thrice / Thursday / Guns And Roses / Funeral For A Friend WHERE DID THE NAME BEYOND ALL REASON COME FROM? It came from a lot of fights and arguments and random suggestions for a new name! IF YOU WERE ALL CONTESTANTS ON THE SAME EDITION OF THE WEAKEST LINK WHICH OF YOU WOULD LAST LONGEST? Venno DO YOU GET NERVOUS BEFORE GOING ON STAGE? Yeah, we all do, a bit. But that soon goes once you�re actually on the stage. HOW DO YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SET? I think the best way is to make sure you save the best couple of songs until the end and keep the set well balanced with perhaps a slow song in the middle to cool it down a bit. WHICH TRACK DO YOU MOST ENJOY PERFORMING? We�ve all got our own favourites and we�re writing new stuff all the time. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO AFTER A GIG? Have a drink and cool down a bit! IS IT DISHEARTENING ON THE NIGHTS FEW PEOPLE TURN UP TO SEE YOU? Yeah, but you just have to play your best no matter how many people are watching. WILL YOU BE PLAYING ANY OF THE SUMMER FESTIVALS? We�re hoping to get on some of the festivals this year now that we�re with one of the big booking agencies. YOU�RE ABOUT TO RELEASE YOUR DEBUT EP, �THE LINE WE DRAW BETWEEN�. WHERE DID THE NAME OF THE EP COME FROM? It�s from the title track. Venno chose the name when he wrote the lyrics to the song. TELL US ABOUT THE TRACKS THAT FEATURE ON IT. WHAT ARE THEY ABOUT? They�re all about the usual stuff, really. Broken relationships, good relationships, hopes and aspriations�.. ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT IT�S RELEASE? Very excited indeed, we have had a great reaction so far from all the press and radio reviews and coverage. WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER DOING ANY COVERS? We wouldn't usually but we were asked to when we recorded for Radio 1 in jan04. We covered photograph by Def Lepard and have since played it live at gigs. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO RELEASE AN ALBUM ANYTIME SOON? Not at the moment were mainly concentrating on touring this ep as much as possible and creating a fan base before releasing an album. WHAT IS IT LIKE SEEING YOURSELVES IN MAGAZINES AND HEARING YOUR SONGS ON THE RADIO ETC? Very strange and quite scary. Its something we weren�t quite prepared for and its been incredible for us so far! We hope it will continue�.. IS THE BAND NOW YOUR FULL TIME CAREER OR DO YOU STILL HAVE OTHER JOBS TOO? We currently still have jobs but we�re hoping that will change in a couple of months. We�re getting very busy and its hard working around a 9-5 job especially when we�re recording or playing in london and we work in york. YOU�RE BASED IN YORK. WHAT IS THE MUSIC SCENE LIKE THERE? Its a good scene, there are a few top bands that will hopefully break out of the city walls soon. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE BAND COLOUR OF FIRE? They�re a great band and good friends of ours. We will hopefully be playing more gigs with them soon. IT�S A SHAME SHED SEVEN SPLIT UP AIN�T IT?! It�s a shame but you must congratulate them on how long their career has lasted! They have done very well indeed. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT YOU COULD MAKE AS A BAND? To sell millions of records around the world! That would just be incredible. WHICH DO YOU ENJOY DOING THE MOST� WRITING SONGS, RECORDING THEM OR PLAYING THEM LIVE? I think playing them live always comes first but it�s awesome hearing what they sound like when recorded. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF TV SHOWS SUCH AS POP IDOL AND FAME ACADEMY? A waste of money and time. WHAT FIRST MADE YOU WANT TO PICK UP A GUITAR AND JOIN/FORM A BAND? A friend in school asked me to be in his band and he pushed me to learn. From the day i learnt to play the guitar i have been hooked. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT STARTING UP A BAND? Make sure the members in the band are all people you get on with, good friends always last and you must be 110% committed to doing whatever it takes to make the band work.
