ANTIPRODUCT + WASTER + PHLUID.
AT YORK FIBBERS. 31/ 07/ 03.

After suffering some serious problems with the car it didnt look like we were going to make it in time for Phluid but luck did seem to be on our side. As we entered the venue, frontman Polly (he has a girls name, so fucking what) was introducing their first track, Heroine. I pushed past Clare pproduct and made my way down the front.
Polly seemed to be more energetic than ever. The whole band were on top form. Old track Droogs was followed by new track American Jihad, today dedicated to Tony Blair.
Tasty, Loved Up and Libertine soon followed. All three tracks will feature on the new mini album Release. This is the album that will either make or break the band, make them famous or break them up.
Libertine was performed to the highest standard I have ever seen it performed. It had a new long rock out ending which allowed the bands musical talent to shine once again. They concluded with the classic Stray Day.
If you thought Alex Kane in make up was scary, you would be terrified by Alex Kane wearing no make up! It scared the shit out of me seeing him like that just before Waster took to the stage!
Waster? What a waste of time! They suck. Actually, that is alittle harsh. I guess they do have their good moments. They have a few good catchy pop tracks but certainly not enough to fill a half hour set. I got rather bored watching them. The most exciting part of their set was when the band decided to give away a few Cds. Suppose they had to do something to get the people watching moving and to wake everyone else up.
And so on to the Kerrang nominated Best live band of 2001, Antiproduct. This was their second gig in six hours. The first, an all ages show earlier in the day, was abit poo apparently but this show was truly amazing.
They opened with Thank God Im Right. The band got a much better response than at the Scarborough gig ten days earlier. As soon as Antiproduct walked on stage today the crowd went crazy. It was a real party atmosphere. Everyone was there for a good time. Nobody left disappointed.
Turnin Me On was followed by Hu Nah Nu Nah. Alex showed off his guitar playing for awhile, made some comment about The Darkness and then made everyone shout Rock N Roll before the fantastic The Rules We Rock 'n' Roll By.
Its great live but the highlight of the set was probably the now legendary Bungee Jumping People Die. Alex, as always, made sure everyone joined in and made sure everyone was having fun. I tried not to sing along but its impossible not to. The track is just too damn catchy for its own good.
Alex leapt over the barrier on to the back of a guy from the crowd during the track. That guy carried Alex over to the bar were he sat for several minutes. As usual, the whole thing ended in chaos. I was expecting nothing less.
New single Better Than This is another slice of classic radio friendly pop. It deserves to be number one, something which will never happen as all radio stations etc seem to play is all the Plop Idol crap.
Alex joined the crowd again during Arms Around The World so that he could introduce the rest of the band, (Clare, Milena, Simon and the super sexy Marina) to us. Once back on stage, Alex had guitar problems which led to the ending of the song getting repeated a total of three times! (Be My) Supergirl brought the set to an end. It was one last chance for the crowd to sing, dance, jump and go crazy. Many screamed for an encore but sadly it never came.
I spoke with Alex briefly after the gig. He is the nicest guy in the world ever. We were talking about how most bands these days only seem to care about making money. A lot of bands dont care about their fans. Antiproduct are different. The only reason they are together and make music is for their fans. People like you and people like me.
So that was that. If you live in York, look out for the Antiproduct stickers I stuck up on the way back to the car. Thats my little contribution to spreading the word of one of the best live bands around.
