| AN INTERVIEW WITH.... PETE FROM ANTIHERO. WHO IS IN ANTI-HERO AND WHAT DOES EACH MEMBER DO? pete - vocals, guitar. marcus - guitar, vocals. davo - bass, vocals. jack - drums, samples HOW DID YOU ALL MEET AND COME TO FORM ANTIHERO TOGETHER? we went to school together. shakespeare's school. stratford grammar school. a free school for smart kids. it sucked. all schools suck. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC? good rock music. we're more than the sum of our parts. if i wasn't in us, i'd like us. we wanted to be in a band that put the character over the clinical. WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES? people who've overcome adversity and done good things. people who are cool. people who didn't hurt anyone in their lives. people who made other people happy. it's fucked up that i'm influenced by celebrities, but everyone is these days. if i can achieve some real greatness by attempting to achieve their fake greatness then that's no bad thing is it? i love the beatles, the pixies, nirvana and countless other bands. these days my favourites bands are probably n*e*r*d, qotsa, reuben, no doubt, mclusky and some guys from stratford called antihero. heh heh heh. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO CALL YOURSELVES ANTIHERO? we called ourselves antihero because being the best and doing it in a cool way is ace. we were always attracted to the fucked up heroes more than the boring ones. most people are pretty messed up. aren't you? now antiheroes are just regarded as heroes. it's become an accepted 21st century thing. AS A BAND, WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE? this band is our biggest achievement to date. we couldn't have done it without each other. IF YOU COULD PLAY WITH ANY OTHER BAND IN THE WORLD, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? the beatles. the beatles were the greatest. any of the current bands on my bands i like list. nice people + great music = amazing tour. YOU HAVE PLAYED WITH LOTS OF BANDS. WHO HAVE YOU ENJOYED PLAYING WITH MOST? miss black america and reuben. good times, crazy times, getting poor together. WHAT ARE THE BEST AND WORST PARTS ABOUT TOURING? best part is having fun and playing. worst part is soundchecks. the good stuff makes the bad stuff worthwhile. that's what being in a band is all about. WILL YOU BE PLAYING THE SUMMER FESTIVALS? you betcha. all that can stop is could be labels buying their acts onto the bill. we hold out hope. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO RELEASE AN ALBUM THIS YEAR? we have plans but we need the right deal. it's coming. i promise. HARIBO STARMIX OR HARIBO KIDDIES SUPERMIX. WHICH DO YOU PREFER? i love the sourmix, especially those sour cherries. i love sour sweets. WHICH ANTI-HERO LYRIC ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF? did you ask the other guys this? they don't write any of the lyrics. i like lyrics for different reasons. a lyric of our that makes me proud might be "nihilists always meet their maker in the end" from 'who's looking out for number one?" or "stravinsky taught me how to dance but there's no insurance to cover it" from stravinsky gave me nightmares. i like the lyric to stravinsky because it's a mose based around imagery and trying to tie a lyric together with abstract thoughts and feelings compared to more linear lyrics i've written. YOU HAVE JUST RELEASED A NEW SINGLE. TELL US ABOUT IT. it's called "stravinsky gave me nightmares" and it's about being scared and fascinated at the same times. it goes for 3 minutes and it's easy to sing along to and jump around to. it's out on february 17th 2003 on integrity records (www.integrityrecords.co.uk). it was XFM single of the week and rock sound and NME liked it. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTES? "cometh the hour, cometh the man". "the harder you work, the luckier you become". "you can shear a sheep as many times as you like but you can only skin it once". i can't remember anymore right now. WHAT FIVE THINGS COULD YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT? my record contract. davo, marcus, jack, our equipment. boring but true. like this interview! WHAT DO YOU THINK OF TV SHOWS SUCH AS POPSTARS AND FAME ACADEMY? they don't scare me because i honestly believe it's the stupidest thing the pop industry could have done long term. the worst thing about them is the fact that all the records were shit. i hope the sugababes and all the pop produced by the neptunes wipes the floor with all that shit. you shouldn't be able to release fucking covers. twats. i don't care if people are pop. it's not about pop and real. it's about good versus bad. those shows are bad. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME? sleep. DO YOU THINK BRITAIN SHOULD GO TO WAR WITH IRAQ? fuck no. i wish everyone could get along. IS ANTI-HERO YOUR FULL TIME CAREER OR DO YOU HAVE OTHER JOBS TOO? it's my full time career. YOU HAVE QUITE A DEDICATED FOLLOWING. WHAT DO YOUR FANS MEAN TO YOU? not much! heh heh heh! nah, they mean everything. they're the blood of antihero. we couldn't function without them. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE? achieving happiness. WHAT FIRST INSPIRED YOU TO PICK UP A GUITAR AND FORM A BAND? watching bands on tv and thinking they were cool. seeing guns and roses on tv when i was about 6.
