3 COLOURS RED + FAKE IDEAL + WASTER. AT SCARBOROUGH KAZBAH. 13/ 05/ 03.
On March 14th 2003 a new venue, The Kazbah, opened its doors for the very first time. Two months later it was finally graced with our presence. We were there to see the recently re-formed 3 Colours Red. As we walked down the stairs into the venue we were greeted by the sound of North Yorkshire based guitar pop band Waster. What I saw of their set sounded pretty good. Up next were recently signed Fake Ideal. They were a typical rock n roll band. They have toured with alsorts of bands and are about to release their debut single, Crave Me An Edge. I didnt really care about the support. I just wanted to see 3 Colours Red. As they wandered on, the crowd rushed towards the stage in time for opener This Is My Hollywood. During the track I started to remember just how good they used to be. They split towards the end of 1999. Chris Mc Cormack then went on to form Grand Theft Audio. After a few years away from each other, the band realised that what they had was too good to just throw away and decided to re-form earlier this year. Good decision. Their new stuff is just as good, if not better, than their older material. New single Repeat To Fade rocks. Go buy it. It deserves to be number one. Despite the poor turn out, the whole band put everything into their performance. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, especially Pete. He now looks awfully like Alex from Big Brother by the way. Maybe Alex and Pete are actually the same person? The set was structured so it mixed old tracks in with the new. A great way to keep the full attention of the audience. Paranoid People and Pirouette both went down well. But one of the main high points of the set was the amazing Beautiful Day. It still sounds as good as it ever did. It still gets used on TV shows too. It was used just days ago on Channel Fours Boys and Girls. They concluded with Mental Blocks before returning with a very special encore with a very special guest, brother of Chris, Mr Danny Mc Cormack from The WildHearts. After Copper Girl was the fantastic Sunny In England. After some encouragement from Pete, the whole crowd were soon signing along. Just as we were getting warmed up, Pete announced the final track. It was the classic Nuclear Holiday. The crowd went crazy, Pete jumped from the stage, Chris poured water over me and that was that. A fantastic end to what had been a fantastic set. Welcome back 3 Colours Red. Weve missed you.
