Walnut Brownies

Ingredients:
 
1 cup walnuts (coarsely chopped)
1/3 cup shortening
1 six ounce package (1 cup)  semi-sweet chocolate morsels
3/4 cup sifted cake flour
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

 
Directions:

Combine shortening and chocolate, melt mixture over hot water. Cool slightly. Meanwhile, resift flour with sugar, baking powder, and salt. Combine chocolate mixture, eggs, and vanilla. Add dry ingredients, and mix together until smooth. Stir in walnuts. Turn into greased 8 inch square pan, and spread level. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes, just until top feels firm to touch. Cool in pan. Cut into squares or bars with a sharp, thin bladed knife.

Makes 15 brownies about 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches.
