It's a very dangerous place. A little over a year after we were burglarized, we were told that someone drove a truck right through the living room of one of those apartments (musta gotten the idea from the original Blue Brothers movie).

The Sunsphere, shown at left, is a 266-foot tall steel tower and was the
centerpiece of the 1982 World's Fair exhibition held in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is
topped by 5 levels of reflective bronze-coated glass windows. The inner surface of
the glass is lined with a vinyl film shot through with 24-karat gold dust; there are
14,000 square feet of glass on its surfaceeach pane cost about $1,000; for a while,
until a New Jersey glass firm stepped forward, designers thought they would have to settle
for silver glass (a moonsphere?). In addition to the observation decks, there was a
restaurant at the top. The sphere itself has a volume of 203,689 cubic feet and a
surface of 16,742 square feet. The revolving restaurant at the top could accommodate
376 diners and the top level observation deck had 120 seats. Other (personal) pictures of the Sunsphere are forthcoming! |
