Dedication to writing brings success

Most people dream, but few take the chance to make their dreams reality.

Sarah Hudson-Pierce's dream is her reality.

Hudson-Pierce was born in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. During much of her early years, her father was ill and her mother's condition left her unable to take care of children. After her father's death, she went to an orphanage in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She first began to write at the orphanage, recording her pain as she lived in an emotionless, sterile atmosphere. From then on, she maintained her habit of writing. In fact, she credits her dedication to writing with saving her sanity. "Everyone needs an outlet to express themselves, and writing can be a very good form of therapy," she said.

Throughout the years she kept a journal of her thoughts and eventually published them as a book. Now her essays and poems have been published in five books.

Additionally she writes a column for the Bossier Tribune, in Bossier City, LA, and hosts a talk show on a Shreveport, LA cable channel.

Self-esteem, determination and compassion are some of the traits she writes about in her inspirational essays and poems. Her lastest book, Turning Points, discusses events that served as pivotal points in her life.

The inspirational publication, Guideposts, recently published one of her stories. The article describes how an old steamer trunk served as a point of happiness. Filled with pictures of past family, it connected Hudson-Pierce with her ancestors and gave her a direction to follow to locate her living relatives.

She credits her success to hard work, determination and the will to see her dreams of being an author and a speaker come true.

Her Bible is always turned to Ecclesiates chapter 11. This passage has helped her stay focused during times of trouble. "I draw my strength from the Bible," she siad. "It has helped me keep an optimistic outlook during times of terrible pain."
