1st. Notre Dame Bugle Band
By
Mr. Anthony Dyer

After months of practice, we were ready for teh road. This was planned as a troop event. A weekend camp at Scout Houst was the platform for the launch. Finalpractice for the band and drill for the rest of the group. On the Sunday morning, we marched from the Scout House to the Notre Dame de Bon Secours Church, Harris Promenade for the 7:30 am mass. At the end of the mass, we marched in full regalia back to the Scout House.

The Band continued to grow, receiving formal training (arranged by Noel Penco) from personnel attached to the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment Band at the Scout Headquarters in St. Ann's and on camp at Chagville.

The Band eventually became the pride of Scouts and of the Scout Bands of Trinidad. The reception was alwyas lively and infectious. The engagements included: Scout Functions; School Sports, and Companies Sports Day.

The Bugle Corp also became tainers. When Queen Royal College (QRC) Scout Band was formed, it was the natural that they turned to Notre Dame for assistance as Noel Penco was instrumental in the rivival of that Troop. Band members from QRC traveled to south Trinidad for training by the Notre Dame members. It is history now that QRC did not remain as a Bugle band, but grew into an Orchestra. Notre Dame however provided the base training.
