News Archive - September/October, 2003

September 1, 2003 - Contact - 5/10
September 2, 2003 - Young Frankenstein - 4th or 5th Viewing - This is probably my fourth or fifth viewing. Although it doesn't get funnier on repeated viewings (as The Producers does), it still keeps a good amount of laughs. It's definitely one of the most quotable movies of all time.

September 6, 2003 - Bowling for Columbine - 9/10 - I saw about half of this again, and it's still as powerful.
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star - 4/10

September 7, 2003 - Salem's Lot - 4/10

September 9, 2003 - Grosse Pointe Blank - 7/10

September 11, 2003 - Donnie Darko - 8/10 (probably)REVIEW COMING SOON

September 12, 2003 - Matchstick Men - 7/10

September 13, 2003 - Dirty Pretty Things - 9/10

September 14, 2003 - Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - 9/10 - I watched most of this on TV again (with a very good censoring job), and I have to say it's a lot better than I remmebered it. Not only is it funny, it's extremely touching and an AMAZING acting job by John Candy. Once I see it all again, I'll put up a capsule.

September 17, 2003 - Donnie Darko - 8.5/10 - I finished the commentary with writer/director Richard Kelly and star Jake Gyllenhaal. It's informative, and it made my appreciation for the movie grow. Once I experience more of the "Donnie Darko Experience" (i.e., the other commentary, more of the website, etc.), I'll post my review.

September 19, 2003 - One Hour Photo - 7/10
Murder by Death - 2nd Viewing - Still as funny as it was before. One of those timeless comedies.

September 20, 2003 - Solaris - 2nd Viewing - It loses something on the small screen and if it isn't totally dark. Most of the coloring is dark. However, it's still excellent, and I understand more of it now.
Capturing the Friedmans - 7/10

September 21, 2003 - Secondhand Lions - 6/10

September 24, 2003 - Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - 2nd Viewing - It's still not hilarious, but it was funnier this time around, and still a very good movie in general.

September 28, 2003 - Lost in Translation - 10/10

September 30, 2003 - The Closet - 8/10

October 4, 2003 - Anything Else - 6/10
Guys and Dolls - 8/10

October 5, 2003 - American Splendor - 7/10

October 6, 2003 - Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me - Multiple Viewing - Neither the movie nor the commentary on the DVD gets old. I love this, and all movies like this. Nothing can compare. It proves that you can still have PG-13 sex jokes. I laugh at something new every time.

October 10, 2003 - Kill Bill: Volume One - 9/10

October 11, 2003 - The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear - 8/10

October 12, 2003 - The Whole Nine Yards - Third Viewing - Still funny. This one's constantly entertaining and still funny after multiple viewings. I now appreciate Matthew Perry's comedic acting more, and Bruce Willis's subdued comedy. Jonathon Lynn is a very talented comedic director.

October 15, 2003 - Logan's Run - 5/10

October 16, 2003 - The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult - 5/10

October 17, 2003 - Halloween - 4/10

October 18, 2003 - Runaway Jury - 6/10

October 19, 2003 - Mystic River - 8/10

October 21, 2003 - Chicago - 2.5 Viewing - Still as entertaining as ever. I'm seriously contemplating buying this; I'll probably finish it up at school sometime.
Gale Force - 3/10

October 23, 2003 - The Birds - 6/10

October 24, 2003 - Scary Movie 3 - 7/10

October 25, 2003 - Northfork - 8/10
Willard - Second Viewing-8/10I now own it and will probably watch it often.

October 31, 2003 - Marathon Man - 6/10 1
