Argument 1
From an interview with the whole cast on CNN:
[Davi and Walker's] characters'
relationship on the show is a unique one, Davi said; Malone is not only a
mentor to Waters, but a close friend. "I think
it's the deepest friendship, even human friendship, that they've had,
and she is able to take profiling to another level," he
said.
Argument 2
From an interview with Robert Davi in TV Zone:
Davi is also pleased working with his
co-star Ally Walker who plays Doctor Sam Waters. While the relationship
between their two characters is one based on mutual friendship and trust,
the actor says that the feelings Malone has towards Sam are stronger than
she realizes. "There is no question that Bailey
is in love with Sam but she doesn't see this."
From a chat with Robert Davi:
NBCHost: Is Bailey in love with Sam?
It appears their relationship is complex, with him feeling responsible for
her safety, but it seems deeper than that. I love the show it has many
twists and turns, keep up the great work! Emma in Dallas, Tx
Robert Davi: Bailey's relationship with Sam is complex.
It is not one of father-daughter; it is beyond the
obvious flirtatious male-female dance. It is one of love, deep respect and
as you know, Bailey was initially her mentor. But their responsibility to
the work they do keeps them from crossing boundaries.
From "Insight":
Bailey to Sam, when she goes off on her own after he learns Jack
may have resurfaced:
"I just need to know where you are."
From "Ring of Fire":
Bailey introduces Sam, Chloe and Angel to the firehouse:
"No one can get up here unless they're with
one of you three guys. You're safe."
"Mommy, this is so cool."
"Yeah. Bailey..."
"You've got bullet proof glass, steel doors. The
whole place is wired."
(Sam kisses Bailey on the lips and they hug)
"Thank you. Thank you so much."
"You should feel pretty safe here."
From "Ambition in the Blood":
From "Cycle of Violence":
From "Las Brisas":
Sam to Villalobos about Bailey:
"We look after each other."
Bailey's only thought after being shot by Jack:
"Sam!"
Sam's first thought when confronted by Jack:
"Bailey..."
Argument 3
From"Insight":
Bailey to John:
"Sam's the best profiler there is."
Sam to Angel:
"You have to understand that he just...he
just can't stand by and let somebody die and not try to do something to stop
it. I mean, it's just not in him. It's just not who he is."
From "Shadow of Angels":
Coop and Bailey:
"You don't want me hurting Sam."
"That's right."

When Sam realises that Bailey is seconds away from being shot by
Zahn, she attacks Zahn and saves Bailey's life.

anyone."
From "Seduction":
Bailey punches the Section Chief for
daring to suggest that Sam seduce a suspect to get information out of him.
Argument 4
From "Crisis":
Bailey to Sam:
"I was in Maryland when I got the word.
Frances. I'll tell you later."
From "Venom":
Sam:
"No, I wanna, I want to talk to Bailey."

From "Dying to Live":
Bailey and Sam on the phone after Sam learns about the
photographer following Chloe:
"Malone."
"Hi, Bailey, it's Sam. Do you have a minute?"
"Sam what's wrong?"
"Well, yesterday Chloe said that she saw some man
taking pictures of her after school."
"Any substance to it?"
"I don't know. Her escort said they didn't see
anything but... I don't think Chloe would make something up like this."
"Okay. We'll double the surveillance on her and
the fire house."
"Well, I... I don't wanna scare her."
"I understand, Sam. We'll play deep, several
teams, if he surfaces again we'll smother him. We'll protect her, Sam.
Between us we won't let her out of our sight."
"Okay. Alright, thanks."
From "Ties that Bind":
Bailey and Sam:
"So when's the custody hearing with your
in-laws?"
"Ah, well, first the judge wants us to see a court
appointed psychologist. She's only eight years old."
"You knowkids are stronger than we think."
"Yeah, but what about their mothers?"
"If there's anything you need, Sam..."
"I know. Thanks."
From "Breaking Point":
Sam and Bailey:
"Not exactly a happy ending, huh?"
"At least Angel's safe."
"You know, when I was ten, my mother died. My
father... he didn't really know what to do with me. So he... he hired this
house keeper, right? Poor woman, I... I gave her such a hard time. So I
guess it was after the third one he... just gave up and let me stay with
Angel and her mother and... they really gave me my childhood, you know.
She's my family."
From "Home for the Homicide":
Bailey and Sam:
"What?"
"You what. I mean, you didn't say a word during
the whole trip up here and you didn't look at the case files. What is it?
I haven't seen you this upset since your bartender took an early
retirement."
"I ran into Janet. She's in town visiting a
friend and his Bemar and his Rolex... Merry Christmas."
Argument 5
From "Insight":
Bailey was Sam's mentor at Quantico and during her early years
in the Bureau.
From "Primal Scream":
Sam and Bailey:
"Bailey! Hey."
"Did you see anything?"
"Yeah. One angry cop and a federal agent who
didn't even say hello."
"Sorry, Sam."
From "It Cuts Both Ways":
Sam learning from Bailey the fine art of touch football:
"Bailey! What is this? Here's a line of
scrimmage, here's me, now I'm supposed to go around there and..."
"You run thirty yards on a fly."
"Right, well what's a fly?"
"I toss the ball, you catch it."
(to a Dictaphone) "He tosses the ball, I catch it
- fly. Helps me to remember, be quiet."
From "Power Corrupts":
Bailey and Sam:
"I could've saved the judge, Sam."
"How?"
"I came back too soon."
"Bailey, ever since you came back you've been
beating yourself up. Everything is not your fault."
"What happened with Franny is."
"You know when Tom died... I felt the guilt was
gonna destroy me. But I have a daughter. And she needs me. So I don't have
time for that guilt. You have a daughter... and she needs you. So you're
just gonna have to get past this, so that you can be there for her. Okay?"
"Okay. Thanks."
"Tell you what, why don't you buy me a drink?"
"Oh, I'd love that."
"Okay. Let's go."
From "Inheritance":
Bailey and Sam about her father:
"At least he's calling. When Janet and I
were married six years she had an affair. Lasted a couple of months. I
opened one of her letters by accident. She ended it the next day. But I
never let her forget it. I'd find ways to remind her. Punished her for
years, never considering my own culpability, the eight-hour-weeks, how I
left her to raise the girls alone..."
"You have a tough job, Bailey."
"She asked for forgiveness. Instead I made her
beg for it day in day out. You feel the decision your father made 30 years
ago was wrong. Are you going to deny you and him the relationship because
of it? Hold him up to some arbitrary high standard because of who he is?"
"It's not fair."
"But that's the deal."
"Did you ever forgive her?"
"A little too late."
Argument 6
From "Second Best":
Bailey and Sam, when Sam posts Franny's bail:
"25 thousand dollars in cash, 250 grand in
collateral. What are you doing, Sam?"
"Tom had a pension fund at the university, it's
money I never think about."
"I can't accept this, Sam, I can't let you do
this."
"It's done, alright, I already did it. You needed
it, I had it. It's okay."
"Yeah. I don't know how to thank you."
"You don't have to."
From "Birthright:
Sam to Chloe:
Me, your mother, I'm scared to talk in front
of other people. I mean, not like people like you, you know, or Bailey, but...
strangers."
From "Shoot to Kill":
Sam and Bailey:
"Have you been here all night?"
"Yeah, just... work."
"Alright, out with it, what's wrong?"
From "Coronation":
About Jack's (or was it Lucas? Who knows?) spine-tingling
performance as Bailey:
"He was impersonating a man I know as well
as anyone and I couldn't see it."
From "Reunion I":
Bailey completely ignores Janet's concern for his injury in the
face of Sam's disappearance, to the point where Grace accuses him of
"abuse" and Janet returns to Baltimore.

Argument 7
From "Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick":
Frances and Sam bonding:
"Hello?"
"Sorry, that's a..."
"I know that vacant look."
"Yeah, it's called a thousand yard stare, it's
like a... it's like looking back through time all that you've seen... good
and bad."
"Been there."
"What do you see?"
"I see the wall paper on the ceiling of my old
bedroom on Randall Street. I'd lie awake and listen to my mom and dad
screaming at each other. Almost all night. And my sister... she always
slept right through it."
"What were they arguing about?"
"Nothing really. Actually, one morning I woke up,
and there was a hole in the plaster through this big. And I asked my mom
what happened. And she said: 'Oh, your dad, he was angry and he hit the
wall it was... it was nothing.' How can putting your fist through a
fricking wall be nothing? It was like that when I shot him. Like his fist
in the wall. It was nothing."
"Like it didn't mean anything?"
"No, like... like I didn't feel it. You know,
I was just numb. And after a while... I wondered why. When you shoot your
father you should feel something, right?"
"Well maybe you did. Maybe you were just afraid
you couldn't handle it so you... bottled it up, you know?"
"Maybe you're right. Um... about the other night.
I was really stupid and I was mean.I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
"I'm sorry."
"That's fine."
"Maybe we could do this again some time, huh?"
"Yeah."
From "Power Corrupts":
Bailey and Chloe:
"I can't lift you up but I can hug you from
here."
(they hug and he starts to tickle her)
"Stop, I'm tickling!"
" So am I."
"I made a fort, come see?"
From "Home for the Homicide":
Chloe about their tree-decorating party:
"I'm glad that Angel is going to be with her
family this year, but why can't we trim the tree with someone we know, like
Bailey or someone?"
Argument 8
From "Home for the Homicide" through to "Reunion":
Bailey and Janet. They sizzled for a very little while, but
quickly fizzled when Bailey's true priorities came to the fore. He chose
Sam -- with whom he has never had a sexual relationship -- over the ex-wive
he seduced away from her fiance.
Argument 9
From "Field Training Exercise":
Art Behar, about his suspicions about the team:
"Sam came out of retirement to work with
Bailey, that alone suggests working in concert."
Art Behar to Sam when she dismisses his allegation that Bailey murdered
Portrero:
"If you weren't biased, you'd entertain the
possibility."

Sam's is in fact not her:
"If that had been her--"
"I know."
From "Reunion":
Bailey and Rachel, after she hypothesizes that Jack would kill
Sam if forced to accept that he couldn't have her:
"I won't accept that."
"Because you think I'm wrong, or because you're
in love with her?"
Argument 10
From "Coronation":
Jack (or Donald Lucas believing himself to be Jack?) disguises
himself as Bailey to get to Sam.
From "Otis, California":
"Sheriff Boast" lures Bailey away from Sam with a false report
on his police radio.
From "Las Brisas":
Jack witnesses Sam and Bailey's hug in the courtroom at the end
of the trial.
As opposed to just letting Bailey leave from the cabin unharmed, Jack
"chooses" to shoot Bailey before he confronts Sam, so that she would linger
in uncertainty about Bailey's fate.
Jack to Sam about Bailey:
"You don't need him. I'm all you need."
From "Reunion I":
Jack leaves Bailey alive so he will suffer from his "failure" to
protect Sam.

Sam that Bailey is dead with these words:
"You should be flattered. The last word he
said on this earth was Sam."

of my intensity and natural charm?"
"Well, no one man could capture it all."
From "Three Carat Crisis":
Bailey, when Sam gets inquisitive about his motives for jewelry
shopping:
"How do you know it's not for you?"

on the edge here."
"Look, I just want you to be happy."
From "Heads, You Lose":

"What happened?"
"Maybe a ring."
"Bailey."
"Give me your finger."
"Bailey, what happened?"
"Look, she can't live a lie any more than I can."
From "Spree of Love":
Sam to Bailey after he advises a young man to give up his older
lover for her sake if not his:
"You know you should listen to yourself
sometime."
Argument 14
Argument 15
From "Ring of Fire":
Bailey and Sam:
"Maybe he's destroying perfection.
"Guess I'd better lock my doors."
"I think you can rest easy, Bailey."
From "Second Best":

I felt him. He's here!." (Sam backs away, on the verge of breaking down.
Bailey approaches her silently and takes her into his arms. She starts
crying.)
From "Power Corrupts":
Sam to Bailey on coping with his feelings of guilt:
"You know when Tom died... I thought that the
guilt was gonna destroy me. But I have a daughter. And she needs me. So I
don't have time for that guilt. You have a daughter... and she needs you.
So you're just gonna have to get past this, so that you can be there for
her. Okay?"
From "Primal Scream":
Bailey and Sam:
"I don't know what to do."
"Well, what do you wanna do?"
"I wanna protect her, I wanna keep her out of
jail, and I want her to know that I forgive her."
"Well, maybe you should start by learning how to
forgive yourself."
From "Coronation":
From "Do the Right Thing":
Sam and Bailey:
"He'll get over it."
"Am I really a suit? That's one thing I never
wanna be."
"It's wardrobe, Bailey, it's not you."
