The World is Not Enough
UK / USA, 1999
[Michael Apted]
Pierce Brosnan, Sophie Marceau, Denise Richards, Robert Carlyle
Action / Adventure

Half decent Bond vehicle which has all the usual gadgets, explosions and attractive women but which fails to be either interesting or well put together. Often feeling like two films cadged together, it impresses with its action scenes but is let down by its lack of good villains. Robert Carlyle is simply not on screen long enough to make any kind of impression, and the immense fear everyone holds him in is therefore unexplainable. Sophie Marceau at least gets to show off her amazing range of accents (is it English? French? Russian? Who knows!) which will hold her in good stead but I can't help feeling that after GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies this is quite a tame effort in comparison.
