Val McKee (Bacon) and Earl Basset (Ward) are two handymen, down on their luck and trying to get out of the remote town of Perfection, deep in the Nevada desert. But their luck runs out when the ground starts rumbling and strange deaths occur. With the help of a student (conveniently) studying seismology in the area, they discover the shaking and killings are the work of giant underground monsters, which are feeling ever so peckish. So its a race against time for our heroes to escape the town along with the other residents, including Burt (Gross) and Heather (Reba McEntire) Gummer, gun fanatics and extreme survivalists.

This movie re-invents the old B-Movie and makes the Creature Feature trendy again. It wasnt made to win Oscars, just to entertain. With thrills, suspense, action and comedy, this movie delivers on all counts. Bacon and Ward are a fantastic pairing, you could just sit and watch them play off each other for hours, whilst a strong supporting cast keep the quality and pace up for the duration of the film, including a memorable performance from Michael Gross.

The plot has many twists and turns, not throwing everything in your face at once, which is a common flaw amongst other monster movies (in other words, they run out of ideas once they show you the creature). The effects are consistently good, considering the time it was made and a relatively small budget, producing a very underrated movie which should definitely be added to your dvd/video collection.
