Comedy / Teen

Made in the mould of the immortal American Pie, this coming-of-age teen flick by first time director Dewey Nicks is of the kind that, having evaluated what has come before it, tries to push the limits of what is acceptable in a film of this sort by as far as it can possibly manage. Thus ensues a film that, although being very sketchy in terms of plot, also breaches the ethical and moral standards of everything that has come before it with some hilarious consequences.

Set around the fictional backdrop of Holden University, the film follows the activities of Dave (Devon Sawa), Sam (Jason Segel) and Jeff (Michael Maronna), three roommates who, having lied and cheated their way through the last 4 years of college, are on the brink of graduation. All that remains to be completed is one last scam, and an exceedingly undeserved degree is theirs. A plan is formed, put into action and successfully completed. The only hitch being Daves chance meeting with the sweetheart of the school Angela (James King), and the obsessive school geek Ethan (Jason Schwartzman), who, having been humiliated by Dave, vows revenge.

Discovering the history of cheating that the three roommates have amassed, Ethan then bribes the three into getting him into a position to be able to score with the object of his desires. The now-quickly-falling-in-love Dave reluctantly agrees to go along with things for the good of the group's hopes of graduating, but soon finds himself torn between his love for the girl and his duty to his friends. One final mega-scam later though and, with Ethan out of the frame, graduation is theirs, Dave gets his girl and they all live happily ever after. Sound familier? Well it should.

Where this film does come into its own however is in terms of the shock value placed upon certain parts of proceedings. Never before has a 70 year old prostitute been fingered on screen while a university student suckled on her naked breast. That was however until
Slackers, and that is just a taste of what the film contains. The main plot of the film I dont mind revealing to you, its been done a thousand times before, and no-doubt will continue to be done for some time to come. The outrageous factor contained in this film will, however, take some beating.
