[M. Night Shyamalan]
Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, Olivia Williams
Drama / Thriller / Supernatural

Bruce Willis acting in a brilliant movie? Said movie relying on speaking roles and intelligent plotting? No dirty vests? This came as quite a surprise to the cinema-going public and rightly held their undivided attention during it's phenomenal run at the US and foreign box offices. Alongside the far better but equally original Fight Club this film virtually re-invented the idea of a spellbinding movie with one hell of a twist in the tale. That no-one ruined said twist for me whilst I patiently waited for it's video release is testament to it's phenomenal hold over all those who saw it.

Strangely the film itself was, though hardly dull, not much to shout about but the revelationary last 10 minutes had me and all those seeing it for the first time gawping in wonder. It's incredible for two reasons: Firstly it makes the film whole and snaps the audience to full attention. Secondly, it increases box-office sales considerably as everyone wants to see it again to figure the whole thing out. Genius.
