Jackass: The Movie USA, 2002 [Jeff Tremaine] Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius Comedy / Documentary |
Not really a documentary as such, but considering the handheld, completely true-to-life style inherent in the Jackass method it seemed appropriate, if only to give it a vague hint of sophistication. To be honest there is little here fans of the MTV show won't recognise, the only difference being that the stunts look a little more expensive (golf carts get trashed, a rented car is used in a demolition derby, prosthetics are used to age people etc), and that some of it is filmed in Japan, apparently because they could get away with a lot more there than they could in the US. Some of it is funny, some of it is weird, some, such as Steve-O's tightrope walk over alligators, is downright scary, but most of it is pretty dull. The Japanese clips are the best, simply because the inhabitants clearly had no idea at all about Jackass, and found it extremely amusing that a group of young white guys would go to such pains to humiliate and hurt each other right on their doorstep. Sadly though there is the distinct smell throughout that it was made simply to turn a lot of cash over quickly with the show having ended the previous year. |
