Interview with the Vampire
USA, 1994
[Neil Jordan]
Tom Cruise, Christian Slater, Kirsten Dunst, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas
Drama / Horror

Adapted from Anne Rice's best-selling book, this is one of the best vampire movies around. There is no mention of Dracula or Transylvania here - the idea is an original one.

The story is based around a writer (Slater) living in San Francisco in 1994 who records peoples' life stories on to tape. One particular character is Louis (Pitt), a vampire from colonial times, who recites his fascinating story through the ages. He was lured into immortality and created by the fierce Lestat (Cruise) and along the way they picked up a young girl named Claudia (Dunst). Their story sees them living life in New Orleans and various other places, including Europe, through their everlasting life. Never to see the sun again and eating sewer rats when nothing else is available.

The story is intruiging all the way through and leaves nothing to desire. There are enough thrills and shocks to make this entertaining fun, also. The scenes are atmospheric and the acting pretty standard. On the down side, it can be said that this film drags on a little. It is also surprising to see Christian Slater take on such a small role in a big film.
