Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
USA, 1993
[Rob Cohen]
Jason Scott Lee, Lauren Holly, Robert Wagner, Michael Learned
Drama / Biography

This is the remarkable story of the life of Bruce Lee, from childhood right up to his untimely and mysterious death. The story of how he left his home country for America, where he hoped to make his fortune, how he had to overcome racism, equality, and discrimination to survive. How he met Linda, his future wife, how he fell in love and tried to make their lives better, despite the odds, including paralysis from a deadly fight of honour, standing up for what he believed in, namely his own form of marital arts. How he found fame in making TV and movies, sparking off a revolutionary popular new genre of martial arts movies, which have become legend, like him.

This movie is not just your typical brainless actioner, this is an emotional bio-pic (sweetened up of course, for the feel good factor) which shows there was more to the man than fast fists and high kicking, the movie is directed as though it was a work of art. Every scene recreated for the time in meticulous detail, sometimes you get lost in the story, forgetting that this was many decades ago. Jason Scott Lee does an admirable job, portraying Bruce with respect, and a down-to-earth charm. Lauren Holly also performs well, theres good chemistry between her and Lee, its a shame that these two havent really moved up the ladder, they deserve to.
