Apparently based on a true story of two twin gynaecologists, this takes longer than youd think to get weird considering it is directed by David Cronenberg. Jeremy Irons is very good in both lead roles as the gifted twins who are unhealthily dependent upon each other. The brothers are actually quite different characters and Irons does well to bring this across. Their close relationship is threatened when the less self-confident sibling falls in love, and their efforts to exist separate lives lead on a path of drug addiction and insecurity.

When both brothers begin to lose any grip they previously had and become both dangerous at their jobs and paranoid is when Cronenberg can finally exhibit his taste for the internal and confrontational. What comes before this is a very intense psychological drama, which is uncomfortable and ceaseless but is nonetheless undeniably interesting.
