Well, we all thought that after The Majestic failed to even garner a UK cinema release, Jim Carreys career was about to take a quick Van Damme-descent. Thankfully for him, the director that once took pity on him and cast him as the legendary Ace Ventura: Pet Detective decided to rekindle a flame in his rubbery face. It also helps to have Morgan Freeman and an increasingly impressive Jennifer Aniston in the same cast.

Bruce Almighty in a nutshell is a moral tale about selfishness, faith and undeserving power, as failed TV news reporter (Carrey) gets ticked off with his life and blames it on the big guy. Low and behold, He appears and decides to take a vacation, leaving his mighty powers in the hands of Carrey. From hereon in, its just the usual predictable tale of how an arsehole learns the hard/funny way to become a better man, then adding on a soppy ending used in so many Meg Ryan movies.

Okay, its pleasant harmless fun, and its raked in a shit load of money across the globe and has propelled Jim back to the top of the comedy gods. There are some peaches here and there, ranging from the slight snigger to all-out piss yourself scenes. I went with a Carrey-hater who at the end was converted, so that sorta gives the movie good stead for a nice solid rating. But somehow I cant help feel Morgan Freeman just took the money and ran.
