Here is a list of the 11 best ATV trails in the southeastern area of the US according to Unlimited Action, Adventure, Good Times Winter 2000 issue, from Marlboro. Hope you like their choices.
Houston Valley ORV Area, Chattahoochee National Forest - Ringold, GA (706) 638-1085 - Wheel around 25 miles of trails spread across 2,600 acres of riding land that locals call "four wheeler heaven".
Brown Mountain Trail, Pisgah National Forest - Morgantown, NC (828) 652-2144 - You'll find 35 to 40 miles of mountain trails on Forest Service land here in the Brown Mountain area.
Ocala National Forest - Altoona, FL (352) 669-3153 - ATV's are welcome only in specific parts of this 400,000-acre Florida forest, so get a map from rangers before you roll off into the sunset.
Croom Motorcycle Area, Withlacoochee State Forest - Brooksville, FL (352) 754-6896 - ATV-ers from all over the region know and love this west-central Florida spot six miles east of Brooksville. Trails wind around 2,600-acre old mining area pitted with sinkholes. There's a 50-site campground in the center.
Hatfield-McCoy Trail System - Nitro, WV (304) 727-7441 - By this time of year, you'll be able to roar down 500 miles of southern West Virginia mountain trails on ATV's, motorbikes, horses, or anything else that roars or gallops. Part of a planned 2,000-mile trail, this brand new ATV playground is accessible now by invitation only. Get you invite by calling (304) 727-7441 and saying "I want to be a Trail Scout". Leave your name, address, and phone number.
Mom's Mountain - Daniels, WV (304) 763-9133 - ATV fans have access to 400 acres of trails that also accommodate mountain bikes and snowmobiles plus an AMA-sanctioned motocross track and campgrounds. Open year-round.
Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge - Tallulah, LA (318) 574-2664 - Wild hogs share their refuge with off-road four-wheelers on these trails located about 14 miles southwest of Tallulah.
Upper Tellico Off-Road Vehicle Area, Tusquitee Ranger District - Murphy, NC (828) 837-5152 - Site of the annual Appalachian Jeep Jamboree and a host of other off-road-vehicle activities. This managed site is one of the few nationally recognized ATV trail systems and offers more than 40 miles of roads in the Nantahala National Forest.
Claiborne Multiple-Use Trail, Kisatchie National Forest - Boyce, La (318) 793-9427 - roar around three loops of varying difficulty, each about 30 miles long, at this spot 15 miles south of Alexandria. Or try a 30 mile challenge at the Vernon Enduro Trail southeast of Leesville.
Wayehutta ATV Trail, Nantahala National Forest - Highlands, NC (828) 526-3765 - Four miles east of town you'll find the ranger district that oversees ATV recreation on 21 miles of trails divided into different sections.
Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area, Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area - Aurora, KY (800) 525-7000 - You can barrel down trails that wind around 2,500 acres here in this recreation area about six miles from Aurora.
