In the CotEditor app
on your Mac, use Window preferences to customize the default window appearance such as widow size or line number display. To change these preferences, choose CotEditor > Preferences, then click Window.

| Prefer Tabs | Choose when documents are opened in tabs instead of new windows:

| Line numbers | Display line numbers on the left side of the editor. |
| Page guide | Display a page guide line at a specific column in the text editor area. Note that the display position differs according to the text font. The default font can be changed in the Appearance pane. |
| Writing direction | Choose the default writing direction in editors. |
| Overscroll | Choose the amount of the extra space at the bottom of the editor to scroll past the end of a document. By 0%, the scroll stops after reaching the end of the document; and by 100%, the scroll continues until only the last line is visible. |
| Status bar shows | Choose the information to display in the status bar, the area below the window. |
| Window width/height | Set the default window size in pixel. If the fields are left blank, the size of the last window is adopted. |
| Split editor | Choose the default split orientation of editors. |
| Editor opacity | Drag the slider or input the percentage to change the default editor opacity. |
