This photo is about a year old, so some of the people are no longer working at the BOE. Your boss is (1) Mr. Kadowaki [Kadowaki-kachou], and your immediate supervisor is (2) Ms. Yamamoto [Yamamoto-kakarichou]. Other people you'll come in contact with are (3) Shukunami-sensei and (4) Haga-sensei.

Allow me to introduce the good people of the Toyooka Board of Education! You will be employed by them, so they are essentially your bosses. They'll draft out your contract, pay your salary, manage the apartment, and sort out all the necessary paperwork for your employment -- such as your foreigner's registration card, pension plan, taxes, etc. etc. They also sort out everything whenever you have a JET conference or training session.

    Your boss will be Mr. Kadowaki (wearing a tank top in the above picture - he gave me that picture to post on the internet, precisely because it shows him out of his usual suit and tie). His title is "kachou," or "section chief," so he's normally addressed as Kadowaki-kachou. Teachers, including the junior high school ALTs, are employed directly by the "gakkou kyouiku-ka," which roughly translates as the "School Education Section" of the BOE. Kadowaki-kachou is the chief of that section. He's a pretty amusing guy.

     Working under him is the woman in charge of the ALTs, Ms. Yamamoto. Her title is "kakari-chou," or "chief clerk," so she's known as Yamamoto-kakarichou. She is basically the immediate supervisor of the ALTs, and she has been great!! She's really on the ball, and she knows the score. You're lucky, because when I first got here, most of the people at the BOE were different from the present lineup, and they were basically clueless! This new crew is much better, mainly thanks to Yamamoto-kakarichou. You'll be in good hands...

     You will be paying the monthly rent & garage fee to the BOE. I always paid Yamamoto-kakarichou in person and in cash on or around payday (the 21st). The BOE is located in the City Hall...
