Students from Alan Howard Waldorf School were thankful yesterday their teacher saw the educational merits of The Lord of the Rings.
"I think it was the best movie I've ever seen," said Louie Fan, 12, whose Grade 7 class took in yesterday's matinee screening of the new movie as part of their history and literature studies.
"In our approach to education, we cover a lot of myths and mythologies," said teacher Jeff Feldman. "There are a lot of good and evil themes to discuss in this film."
The Lord Of The Rings opened to audiences yesterday amid much hype, filling cinemas across North America.
Great to watch
At Paramount Toronto there were adults and kids forming queues well in advance of start times for the three-hour movie. Fans coming out of the theatre said that while some parts had been changed from the book, the film was great to watch.
Most praised director Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's book.
"It's as good as they could do it," said Grade 8 student Jamie Peters.
"I was telling myself before the film not to build it up too much, because I would be disappointed. But not this movie. Some of the lines were right out of the book. I couldn't believe it," said Jeff Raymer, who read the book this year.
