York Regional Police Const. Cathy McAllister has never had a case as adorable as this one before.
Her latest collar is so cute, she may just decide to keep him.
This tail about dogged detective work began to unfold after Thornhill residents called police to report an unfamiliar, tagless animal roaming Mullen Dr. on Boxing Day.
Const. Nate Matthew took the tired and shivering pup back to the station.
Because the station was low on staff due to the holidays and nobody was available to track down Animal Services personnel, the little wanderer remained there until McAllister fell for the cuddly canine and decided to take him home for the night.
"Another officer and I were fighting over who would take him home, until I said that I had already named him and my kids were already expecting him," McAllister said. "We gave him the name Leo, just in case he stays."
Leo is a floppy-eared pooch, probably a lab-terrier cross, about seven months old. He's black, about 22 cm long, sports a dime-sized hairless spot on his upper torso and wears a brown leather collar but no tags.
Anyone with information should call York Regional Police at 905-764-1300, ext. 7977.
