Bring your rabbit to the table

Keep the rabbit in your arms.

Grab by the ears, set their bottom down on the table, then the front legs.  Put one hand over their head and the other head adjusts and poses the rabbit. 

 

Handle your rabbit

1.   Grasp ears 

2.   Lift gently                          

3.   Support hindquarters                     

4.   Lifting rabbit, onto left arm

5.   Check to make sure feet are up and tucked

6.   Lower right hand to side

 

OR

 

1.   Place hands under abdomen

2.      Lift rabbit and maneuver it onto left

3.   Drop right hand to side and step back

           

Examine your rabbit

1.   Ears         

      1.  Squeeze base

2.      Open ear - left ear tattoo, mites, nicks,

 

2.   Eyes

1.  Point at eyes

2.      Check for blindness, cloudiness, weeping

 

3.   Turn Over

1.   Smoothly, and in control

2.      Hold rabbit firmly

3.       

4.   Nose

1.   Point at nose

2.      Check for discharge

 

5.   Teeth       

1.  Upper first

2.      Lower second - condition, malocclusion

 

6.   Throat/Dewlap

1.      Stroke under chin, check for abscesses, tumors

 

7.   Front legs

1.   Pull each out gently to check straightness

 

 

 

 

8.   Feet

1.      Check toenails

 

9.   Chest/Abdomen

1.      Feel chest, check for tumors, abnormalities

 

10. Thighs

1.      Push downward and check straightness

 

11. Hocks

1.      Check each one for soreness

 

12. Back Toenails

1.      Check for color, missing, broken

 

13. Sex

1.   Determine sex

2.   Disease

 

14. Tail

      1.   Feel tail for brokenness

 

15. Turn Over

      1.   Support hindquarters

      2.   Head to the left

 

16. Tail (again)

      1.   Straightness, abnormalities

 

17. Ears

      1.   Place ears according to breed

      2.   Ear carriage

 

18. Meat

      1.   Feel its body quality

 

19. Fur

      1.   Run hand from tail to head and back

      2.   Blow into fur

      3.   Pull wool sample

 

20. Position

      1.   Position rabbit toward judge

      2.   Step back with hands at side
