The Burns Supper
This event continues to be as popular as ever and Roddy’s arrangements and hard work all slotted together on the night and went like clockwork! Prof. Gillies’s Immortal Memory was on a level that even I could understand, was interesting and enjoyable. Ian McCartan’s Selkirk Grace is now becoming something of a tradition and Jim McLaren, the farmer from Perthshire, gave a most "professional" address to the Haggis, borne in somewhat timorously by Colin Campbell. Tam O’Shanter and Holy Willie were later given meticulous treatment by Jim McLaren to the delight of everyone. Our "home – grown" Alistair Kirkwood produced a great Toast to the Lassies, equally parried and replied to by Liz Fraser who turned out to be well up to the occasion despite her misgivings and trepidation beforehand. Jim Moran was again a pleasant accompaniment to a few of the more popular Burns songs and President Len kept the proceedings flowing very comfortably. Andy Lees forgot nobody in his Vote of Thanks which was much appreciated. It was good to have so many guests with us, particularly Noel & Maurice from Ballymoney along with their respective wives, and hosted by the McCartans and the Gillespies… well done chaps. A pat on the back for everyone, but especially Roddy for bringing it all to fruition! Dates for your Diary
