  • it takes 5 years to train a US Navy SEAL
  • it takes 8 years to train a Scout
    • during the Falklands war in 1982, a small combined SAS/SBS/RMC task force conquered a small fortress in Port Stanley which was full with a whole company of Argentinian Special Forces (nowadays called Halcon-6 )
  • In most SOF units, only 10 percent of applicants ever make it thru the selection course
    • Cold water, no margin of error and high pressure gives combat divers a chronical venes disease after less than 10 years of work
  • Some SEAL combatants have been in the force for 20 years and never saw real combat
    • Many countries have "high-end" units, where only officers and/or members from other special units are allowed to attend the selection process. Combined with high failure rates, those units represent the highest capability of the respective countries. In Sweden it's the SSG, in Poland - GROM, in Russia - Alfa, and the list could go on.
  • Many countries also have secret units, which do not appear in any public documents. Those units are funded from budgets which are publicly destined for other areas. Due to their secrecy, it is difficult to track their capabilities.
