This was U2's thirt album, and their first no.
album in the UK.
On the cover of the album is the same boy displayed as on the
album Boy but now the boy has gown up and doesn't look
native anymore.
War was criticised for being bombastic and blatantly
rockist, but there is also a sense of experimentation on the
album, like Two hearts beat as one (Which is essentially
a dance track), the haunting Drowning Man (featuring
Steve Wickham on violin), Surrender (Which include a
solo trumpeter and Kid Creole's female backing vocalists, the
coconuts) and the gentle "40" which closes the
album with the same question as Sunday Bloody Sunday opens it.
