Drishti

Drishti as the word suggests is about computer vision. This is something which has been cooking in my head for quite some time now. Its something related to computer vision and intelligence. Ofcourse vision means intelligence. Computer being able to recognize objects in a scene and being able to estimate their distance from the  camera.

I have some theoretical ideas related to this but i still need to study a bloody god damn lot for this purpose. Any guidance or offer to teach me about the following ideas would be most welcome. I will need to learn about mainly edge detection, camera interfacing, and about intelligence to recognize objects. Ofcourse the last thing has to be more of my own work. I have constant mind thread running on this. It keeps giving me ideas about it. I'll keep updating this page with more of what i know. Believe me i have more to say then what i have wriiten above.

Update: Theory:>

We can see things in 3 Dimensions because of our two eyes (sya written in several places). But then people say hat even if i close one eye and see by just one eye we can estimate the 3D scene. This is somewhat related. If we have a camera mounted on a small platform which capable of small controlled movement, then we can get some clips of a scene from slightly varing directions/locations say be moving the head of the camera a little bit. Now the things in consequetive photos will change slightly and extent of the change will depend upon the distance of the object from the camera. Just lilkre prespective things. Farther objects will be displaced much less than the object which are closer to the camera. This change/displacements can be intelligently interpreted and used to identify major items in a scene and their distance from viewer.

Now i need to thing about the intelligence and the theory which i will be doing all along these six months i have before i need to start worrying about my major project. That will be in my 8th semester starting January 2003.
