         I'm pretty sure that by watching movies every day you hear a lot of words that you are not sure what they mean. Below are some of these movie terms (the most used). The explanation of some terms is adapted from IMDB.

Additional Photography
Sometimes the actors are recalled and parts of the movie are reshot as a reaction to some pretty bad scenes.

Art Director

The persons who directs the people who look after the set.

ADR

The re-recording of a part of the dialog because of the strong background noise or to add new lines to the movie so as to be more easy to understand the plot.

B:

Best Boy

The second in command in a group of people working in a film.

Blockbuster

A movie which earns more than $100 million in the US.

Back Projection

The technique of filming the actors in front of a blue screen and then adding in post-production in the back a set.

Billing

The order in which the main actors or other filmmakers( such as screenwriters, producers) are credited on the movie beginning titles or on the posters.

Bomb

A movie which is a financial disaster.

Box-office

The money paid by the movie-goes to see a particular movie.

C:

Cameo

A small part played by a famous actor in a movie as a favor or to distract the audience from the movie that really stinks.

Cast

All the actors appearing in a movie.

Caterer

The person who provides the meals for the crew.

Clapboard

A small board which is clapped at the beginning of a take and has written on it the name of the movie,the director,the scene, the take, the day and the time of the shot.

D:

Dialog coach

A persons who helps actors speak with an accent according to the part of the world the character played by the actor comes from.

Dolly

A truck which carries the camera and the crew in order to film a moving shot.

Dubbing

The combining of multiple sounds into one.

E:

Executive Producer

A producer who handles legal and financial issues.

Extra

A person who appears in the background of a scene or in a crowd and has a non-speaking role.

F:

Foley

The recreation of some sound effects by using different things which make a similar sound.

Frame Rate

The rate at which the pictures taken by the camera are displayed. In order to create the illusion of moving the frame rate must be higher than the frame rate that the man is capable of capturing(18-20 fps for a man and 24 fps for the movie).

L:

Line Producer

A person who manages with every other person involved in the shooting.

P:

Post Production

The work done in a film after the usually shooting( editing and adding special effects).

Prequel

A movie which presents the action that took place before the action of the original movie.

S:

Sequel
A movie which presents the characters or the action that takes place after that of the original movie.

Still Photographer

A person who takes pictures during the shooting for publicity reasons.

Synopsis

A presentation of the plot of a movie and its characters.

T:

Trailer

An advertisement for a movie with some very important( or violent) scenes.

W:

Word-of-Mouth

Moviegoers can't help saying to their friends if a movie was very good or to avoid a particular movie especially after a very highly publicized movie seems very bad.
