About RMC

The Royal Military College of Canada was founded by Royal Charter in 1876.  Located on a prime waterfront location, RMC is situated close to Queens University in which to share academic resources and to downtown Kingston for all amenities.

The RMC peninsula, Pt Frederick, has played an inportant part in Canadian History.  The first military establishment was settled in 1789 under Count Frontenac and in During the War of 1812 it served as the major naval station in Upper Canada.  The Dockyards built several Royal Navy ships that patrolled the Great Lakes including the 102 Gun HMS ST LAWRENCE..  In Later years, both Fort Henry, built to guard against US invasions and Fort Frotneac, sprouted up on either side of the peninsula marking the importance of the waterway.  Several original buildings still exist on the college campus. Such as the Commadant's House built in 1813, the Stone Frigate built in 1820 and the Hewett House, originally built in 1810 but completely renovated in 1875-76.

RMC grants degrees in the Arts such as Business Administration, Military and Strategic Studies and English as well as Engineering degrees in Mechanical, Chemical and Electrical Engineering.  For a full description of all the programs offered go to

Over the last 126 years fewer than 25 000 cadets have marched through the doors of the institution.  Former Senator Hartland Molson class of 1928, Senator Joseph Day class of 1963, General John deChastelain (former Ambassador to the US and current Northern Ireland peace negotiator), Astronauts Marc Garneau and Chris Hadfield are just but a few examples of graduates of RMC.

RMC has an enrollment of approximately 900 undergraduates in all of its degree programs which offers small class sizes and a high level of commitment from staff..
