UQTR 6 RMC 1 stats For the second year in a row the RMC Paladins bow out in the first round of the playoffs after being swept by the UQTR Patriotes. UQTR completed the sweep with a 6-1 rout on Friday night in Kingston. After losing the hold on first place in the OUA Mid East in the last weekend of the season, the Paladins were forced to take on the high scoring Patroites in the first round. Playing in front of a partisan home crowd the Paladins hoped to come out strong but failed to do so as UQTR opened a 3-0 lead on nine shots in the first ten minutes of the period and never looked back. After letting in the three goals Blair Robertson (Outlook,Sk/Quesnel Millionaires) was replaced by Matt Hartney (Burnaby.BC/University of Saskatchewan) in net. In relief Hartney stopped 32 of 35 shots he faced but the Paladins could not muster enough offence to get out the their early hole. After the second period the Paladins were out shot 35-18 and down 5-0. In the third RMC came out and restored some pride as they managed to out shoot UQTR and break Danny Dallaires shutout bid when Adam Purdy (Stittsville,On/Kanata Stallions) scored a power play goal from Nick Cregan (Ottawa,ON/Cumberland Grads) and Sean Dickson (Kingston,ON/Brockville Braves) at 13:53. 15 Feb UQTR 7 RMC 2 stats The Paladins threatened the UQTR Patriotes for 40 minutes on Wednesday night before surrendering 5 goals in the final 20 minutes enroute to a 7-2 loss in Trois Rivieres. After being staked to a 2-0 lead RMC allowed 7 unanswered goals from UQTR. The Paladins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with back to back power play goals from Roman Srutek (Kanata,On/Kanata Stallions). Srutek got his first at 8:23 of the first from Brent Maurice (Aylmer,PQ/Shawville Pontiacs) and Paul Bradley (Calgary,Ab/Canmore Eagles) on a 5 on 3 advantage. Thirteen seconds later Srutek extended the lead on a goal from Brent Maurice and Tyler McTavish (London, On/St Thomas Stars). UQTR cut the lead to 2-1 at 9:15 when Mathieu Thibodeau scored an unassisted goal. Despite being out shot 19-9 for the period RMC led by one at the first intermission. In a wide open second period which saw the teams combine for a total of 30 shots on goal, only Jonathan Boutin from UQTR could put the puck past a goalie. He scored at 6:28 to tie the game at two. The offensive action in the second seemed to spur on the Patriotes as they opened up offensively in the third to out shoot RMC 19-5 and put the game away. UQTR got the eventual game winner at 11:27 of the third and then went up 4-2 two minutes later. They then put the game away with three goals in the final three minutes including two power play goals in the last minute. The turning point of the game was the second period when UQTRs Danny Dallaire shut the door on numerous RMC opportunities when they could have increased their lead including a 50 second 5 on 3 advantage. Instead the Paladins were locked at 2 apiece heading into the third where the depth of the UQTR offence took over. RMC was out shot 54-28 on the evening including 19-5 in the decisive third. RMC went 2 for 7 on the power play and killed 6 of 8 short handed situations. The two teams now head to Kingston for Game 2 at 7:30 pm EST at RMC |
