UQTR 5 RMC 1      stats

RMCs playoffs came to an end on Saturday afternoon as they lost 5-1 to the UQTR Patriotes to be swept 2-0 in the OUA Eastern Conference Quarter Finals.

After skating with UQTR on Wednesday night in Kingston, the Paladins had hoped to keep up that pressure on the heavily favoured club in Three Rivers.  They managed to do so pressuring UQTR the whole game in a penalty filled affair.

In the first UQTR stormed out to ensure that they would sweep the series but RMC goalie Blair Robertson had a different idea.  The Paladins were outshot 22-7 in the period and thanks to the brilliant goaltending of Robertson the Paladins were in the game when the period ended.  The first 10 minutes were scoreless, but the vaunted UQTR power play struck at 9:47 to take a 1-0 lead.  Less than thirty seconds later UQTR stretched the lead to 2-0 and they looked to continue the route.  Robertson made several key saves to keep RMC down 2-0 and then on a power play Adrian Hartley fired in a shot to cut the lead to 2-1 at 12:37. The period ended with UQTR up 2-1.

Bouyed by the steller goaltending and the close score RMC came out in the second looking to tie the game.  But it was UQTR who got the lone goal of the period at 3:17.  In the period RMC fired 12 shots on Danny Dallaire but could not find the twine.

In the third RMC again looked to even the score but again they could not solve Danny Dallaire despite taking the play to the Patriotes.  UQTR stretched their lead to 4-1 on the power play at 4:48 and then closed out the scoring at 17:55.

In the last two periods RMC out shot UQTR 23-18 and took the play to the home team but they could not sustain a constant attack with the parade of players from both teams to the penalty box which took a lot of the flow out of the game.  In the end UQTR out shot RMC 40-30 with RMC going 1 for 11 on the power play and killing 12 of 14 short handed situations.

UQTR 5 RMC 2    stats

In game one of the OUA East Quarter Finals, RMC played with UQTR for 50 minutes before letting UQTR get ahead in the game and take the first game 5-2.

In front of a boisterous home crowd RMC skated with UQTR in a scoreless first period.  In the period UQTR outshot RMC 12-8 in an evenly contested 20 minutes.  RMC took advantage of the crowd and home rink and relentlessly pressured UQTR whenever they had the puck but they could not manage to get any goals.

The second period saw RMC come out with a huge boos of confidence after the scoreless first period.  At 7:57 Brent Maurice let go with a booming point shot that blew past the UQTR net minder to give RMC a 1-0 lead and send the crowd into a frenzy.  Two minutes later Jamie Routledge extended the RMC lead to 2-0 at 9:35 much to the delight of the home crowd.  UQTR was unsure of what was going on in the rink with the huge fan base for the Paladins going wild.  An unfortunate interference call gave UQTR the much need break they wanted as they scored a power play goal with less than 10 seconds left in the frame to go into the second intermission down only 2-1.  Despite out shooting RMC 24-16 in the first two periods they were out played and done in by the solid goaltending of Blair Robertson.

The late second period goal gave the Patriotes the momentum going into the third as they came out a much stronger club and took the play to RMC.  At 11:48 they tied the game and then scored 3 more goals in the next 7 minutes to seal the victory.  The game winner for UQTR came off the stick of Pierre Movan at 13:43.  RMC was just not able to solve all-star goalie Danny Dallaire to tie the score and UQTR scored at 15:17 and 18:40 to close out the game.

UQTR outshot RMC 38-25 forcing Blair Robertson to make many key saves.  RMC went 0 for 1 on the power play and killed 3 of 4 short handed situations as the majority of the penalties called were offsetting which allowed for a great flow to the game.

RMC played with out Louis Charland and Luke Pierce who was injured in the last game of the regular season.
