After three solid games, a win and a tie against Queens and an overtime loss to the division leading U of T Varsity Blues the Paladins came out flat against the lowly Ryerson Rams and were handed a 5-1 loss on Saturday night.

In a penalty filed game, where in the first period featured more less than 10 minutes of 5 on five the Paladins could not gain any flow to their game as they played down to Ryerson�s level.

Ryerson opened the scoring at 9:51 of the first 5 on 5.  They then extended the lead to 2-0 early in the second on a 5 on 3 power play just 56 seconds into the frame.  It then became 3-0 with a short handed Ryerson goal at 13:24.  The Rams took the lead into the second intermission.

RMC came out better in the third and closed the gap to 3-1 when
Ian Miller (Hamilton,ON/Shawville Pontiacs) scored at 14:35 from Paul Bradley (Calgary,AB/Canmore Eagles). With a win essiental to keep pace with Queens and try to get home ice advantage, Jim Houlton pulled Bliar Robertson (Outlook,SK/Quesnell Millionaires) for the final two minutes to try to draw even but RMC could not net a goal as Ryerson added two empty netters to make it a 5-1 final score.

On the evening RMC was outshot  46-30.  Their power play was 0 for 11 while RMC killed 11 of 12 penalties against them.

With the loss RMC now sits at 6-13-2-1 good for 15 points.  They trail Queens by one point for second after the Gaels beat Ryerson 7-2 and lost against the U of T 3-0.  RMC currently holds the number 6 seed in the OUA East Division playoff picture 5 points up on Concordia and only 2 points behind third seed University of Ottawa.

The Paladins had a great opportunity to secure their playoff spot with a solid effort but fell just short in a 3-2 overtime loss to the division leading U of T Varsity Blues.  Even with the single point for the tie, RMC further solidified their playoff drive with an excellent effort after coming off an emotional win in the Carr-Harris Cup and a subsequent victory at Queens.

The game was a tight checking affair between two closely matched teams as the playoff race begins in earnest.  The Varsity Blues took advantage of an early RMC penalty when the opened the scoring with a power play goal at 2:27 of the first.  The Paladins fought back and tied the game with a power play marker with 13 seconds remaining in the period. 
Paul Bradley (Calgary,AB/Canmore Eagles) netted the goal with assists from Luke Pierce (Merritt,BC/Vernon Vipers) and Matt Fetzner (Royston,BC/Weyburn Redwings).

The game remained tied at 1-1 until late in the third when the Varsity Blues got a go ahead marker at 14:56. 
Nick Cregan (Ottawa,ON/Cumberland Grads) tied the game at 2 at 17:46 with assists from Fetzner and Tyler McTavish (London,ON/St Thomas Jr Stars).

In the overtime period RMC could not net the winner despite outshoting the U of T 3-2 and the Varsity Blues got the winner at 2:39 of the extra frame.

Blair Robertson (Outlook,SK/Quesnell Millionaires) took the loss as he stopped 27 of 30 shots he faced.  RMC fired 27 shots against the U of T net.  On special teams RMC was 1 for 6 on the power play and killed 4 of 5 short handed situations.

Matt Fetzner lead the team with 2 A while Bradley�s goal was his 15th of the season giving him 28 points tied for fifth in the OUA.
