Queens 3 RMC 0    stats

The RMC Paladins lost an opportunity to extend their lead over the Queens Golden Gaels for second spot in the OUA Mid East with a 3-0 loss on Saturday night.

A night after dominating play in a 5-1 win, the Paladins just could not solve Queens net minder Ryan Gibb who stopped all 33 shots he faced.  Like Friday night, the team that opened the scoring went on for the win.

The Gaels took a 1-0 lead at 11:13 of the first with the eventual game winner but had to be constantly looking back as the Paladins put on enormous pressure to tie the game.  The Paladins had a great opportunity as they went on the power play for nearly 6 straight minutes late in the first, but they could not solve the Queens penalty kill.  In the second RMC had a 30 second 5 on 3 but again were stymied.

The 1-0 lead held up until 7:13 of the third when the Gaels took a 2-0 lead.  With
Matt Hartney (Burnaby,BC/University of Saskatchewan) pulled for the extra attacker the Gaels added an empty netter to round out the scoring.

Adam Briggs (Wallace,NS/Charloettetown Abbies) took the loss for RMC.  He stopped 10 of 11 shots he faced before Hartney came in as an emergency replacement 2 minutes into the third.

Over all RMC outshot Queens 33-29 and both teams were unsuccessful on the power play with RMC 0 for 9 and Queens 0 for 7 including a minute and a half 5 on 3.

The Paladins now head into the Christmas Break sitting in third spot with a 4-11-1 (4-14-2 overall) record for 9 points, one point back behind Queens who sit at 3-10-3 (5-11-5 overall).  In the race for the final playoff spot in the East Division RMC and the Concordia Stingers sit tied with equal records.

RMC now has just over a month of because of Christmas exams and Christmas Break and they have their next league action on Friday 5 Jan as they head to Toronto to take on the Ryerson Rams and the U of T Varsity Blues in another interdivisional match up.
