RMC 1  McGill 1 OT
stats

The Paladins marched into Montreal on Saturday night facing a McGill Redmen team that has a 120 minute shutout streak on the line and managed to break that streak and come out with a 1-1 tie.  The game was played in front of an announced crowd of over 900 fans which contained a few boisterous RMC supporters.

The game was a battle of the goal tenders as  McGills Mathieu Poitras and RMCs B
lair Robertson (Outlook,SK/Quesnell Millionaires) faced off against each other.  Poitras was coming off back to back shut outs, his 8th and 9th of his CIS career while Robertson started after mopping up against UQTR last Friday.

The game was a penalty filled affair in which both teams power play units could not seem to get on track despite numerous opportunities.  Neither team could find the net after the first 40 minutes as McGill out shot RMC 27-11 in the two periods.

All the scoring came in a 30 second span in the third as McGill opened the scoring with a power play goal at 1:14.
Roman Strutek (Kanata,On/Kanata Stallions) tied the game with his own power play goal at 1:43.  Matt Fetzner (Royston,BC/Weyburn Redwings) and Paul Bradley (Calgary,AB/Canmore Eagles) assisted on the goal.

Neither team could find the net in the overtime.  The intensity of the rivalry between the two schools heated up as the game ended with some pushing and shoving which should set the stage for their return engagement in the new year during the playoff push.

RMC went 1-12 on the power play including one 2 man advantage and nearly a fully two minute advantage to end the game.  RMC killed 9 of 10 penalties including a stretch of  10 straight minutes of McGill power play in the second.

In other OUA Mid East action, the Queens Golden Gaels kept pace with RMC with a 2-2 OT tie against the University of Ottawa Gee Gees while the Ryerson Rams were thumped 12-3 by the Concordia Stingers.

RMC 5  Concordia 2     stats

The Paladins snapped their four game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Concordia Stingers Saturday night at Constantine Arena.
The Paladins got into a bit of penalty trouble in the first which lead to the Stingers jumping out to a 1-0 lead with a power play marker at 12:08.  The turning point of the game cam just over a minute later when the Paladins killed off a minute and a half 5 on 3.  The kill seemed to inspire RMC.
In the second Concordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 1:28 into the second frame with their second power play goal of the night.  The Paladins finally got on to the score sheet in the final 10 minutes of the period when they netted 3 goals in just over 2 minutes.
Luke Pierece (Merritt,BC/Vernon Vipers) got his first goal of the season at  13:40 with assists from Tyler McTavish (London,On/St Thomas Stars) and Tyler Spice (Chilliwack,BC/Chilliwack Chiefs)Nick Cregan (Ottawa, ON/Cumberland Grads) tied the game at two with a power play goal at 15:15 from Roman Srutek (Kanata, On/Kanata Stallions) and Duaine Fetzner (Royston, BC/Pricne George Spruce Kings).  Just 12 seconds later Matt Fetzner (Royston, BC/Weyburn Redwings) notched what turned out to be the game winner unassisted.  The Paladins dominated the period out shooting the Stingers 23-11.
In the third Cregan notched his second of the night from
Paul Bradley (Calgary,AB/Canmore Eagles) and Ian Miller (Hamilton,On/Shawville Ponticas).  Roman Srutek rouded out the scoring at 17:37.

Adam Briggs (Wallace,NS/Charlotettetown Abbies) got the win for RMC stopping 20 of 32 shots.  RMC went 1 for 8 on the power play while killing 6 of 8 short handed situations.
With the win RMC remains tied for second in the OUA Mid East Division with the Queens Golden Gaels who split their weekend series beating Concordia 7-5 while losing 4-2 to UQTR.  Both teams remain 2 points behind the U of T who beat Ottawa 2-1 and were blanked 3-0 by McGill.  The surprise of the weekend was the Ryerson Rams defeating Ottawa 1-0 in OT.  It was Ryersons first win over another team other than RMC or Queens since a 3-0 win over the Guelph Gyphons in Oct 2003.  During that timeframe Ryerson in total had 2 wins over Queens and 1 over RMC.
Up next for RMC is a road trip to Montreal and Ottawa.  On Friday 3 Nov they travel to Montreal to take on the McGill Redmen (4-1,9-4 overall) at 7:00 pm EST.  The Redmen are coming off back to back shut outs in Toronto with a 3-0 over the U of T and 4-0 over Ryerson.  On Saturday RMC takes on the Ottawa Gee Gees (2-4/4-4-4 overall) at 7:pm EST.  The Gee Gees have dropped two straight aver shocking McGill earlier in the week.  They lost 1-0 against Ryerson and then 2-1 to the U of T.
