UQTR 11 RMC 3  stats

After coming off an exciting overtime win over Concordia on Friday night, the Paladins showed their tiredness after playing two key games in less than 18 hours.  RMC managed to keep the game close for forty minutes but their tired legs showed in the third as UQTR exploded for 6 goals in the final 20 minutes as they outshot RMC 26 to 4.

UQTR took advantage of playing at home this weekend and facing a tired RMC club as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first with the help of two power play goals and a four on four goal.  In the period RMC played a man short for 10 minutes of the period including a 5 on 3 short handed situation.

UQTR extended their lead to 4-0 at 8:38 of the second and then RMC started to cut into the lead.  First
Roman Srutek (Kanata,ON/Kanata Stallions) scored a power play goal with assits from Matt Fetzner (Royston,BC/Weyburn Redwings) and Nick Cregan (Ottawa,ON/Cumberland Grads). Richard Lim then made it 4-2 at 13:22.  UQTR then sealed the win with a power play goal at 17:37.  The Paladins took the play to the Patriotes in the third dominating most of the play and out shooting UQTR 16-10

RMC just could not carry the momentum into the third after their emotional come from behind win last night.  UQTR used their speed to completely dominate the play. 
Paul Bradley (Calgary,AB/Canmore Eagles) rounded out the scoring for RMC in the third tallying the lone marker as RMC was outsocred 6-1 in the third.

Matt Hartney (Burnaby,BC/University of Saskatchewan)
took the loss for RMC stopping 37 of the 49 shots he faced.

In other action the Queens Golden Gales lost both their games this weekend a 3-0 loss to UQTR and a 2-1 loss over Concordia.  The other playoff team the University of Ottawa Gee Gees beat Ryerson and face the U of T later today.  The playoff picture is now complicated in the OUA East Division.  UQTR and the U of T have solidified first round byes and the McGill Redmen have sewn up the third seed.  Ottawa sits in fourth with 21 points while Queens holds the fifth seed with 18 points.  RMC and Concordia are tied for sixth with 17 points.

RMC 7  Concordia 6 OT     stats

The Paladins bounced back from two losses last weekend to defeat the Concordia Stings 7-6 in OT.  With the win, RMC moves further ahead of the Stingers for the final playoff spot and pulls to within 1 point of Queens.

The game started out with lots of offensive chances but both goaltenders kept the game scoreless until Concordia opened the scoring at 16:26 of the first.  That ended the goalies quiet evening as over the next 40 minutes the teams combined for 12 goals.

Concordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 23 seconds in to the second period. 
Roman Strutek (Kanata,ON/Kanata Stallions) closed the gap to 2-1 with a power play marker at 3:34 with two Stingers in the penalty box.  Nick Cregan (Ottawa,On/Cumberland Grads) and Paul Bradley (Calgary,AB/Canmore Eagles) assisted on the goal.  Concordia then restored their 2 goal lead with their own power play goal at 5:10.  Sturek then closed the gap to 3-2 with his second of the game at 8:46 with a pretty 5 on 5 effotr with assists from Cregan and Bradley.  After Concordia made it 4-2, Paul Bradley scored a power play goal at 15:17 with assists from Matt Fetzner (Royston,BC/Weyburn Redwings) and Greg McDonald (Ottawa,ON.South Ottawa Jr B) to round out the scoring in the second.

In the third the scoring parade continued.  Concordia jumped out to a 6-3 lead but RMC stormed back.  RMC took advantage of another 5 on 3 advantage.  First
Tyler McTavish (London,On/St Thomas Jr Stars) scored on the power play from Srutek and Bradley.  Then Bradley added a shorted handed marker at 15:01 to close the gap to 6-5.  Less then a minute later Nick Cregan tied the game with assists going to Ian Miller (Halmiton,ON/Shawville Pointiacs) and Tyler McTavish.

The game remained deadlocked and went into overtime with RMC shorthanded due to a holding call with 30 seconds left in the game.  RMC killed off the penalty and fired the only three shots on net with the winning goal coming off the stick of
Duaine Fetzner (Royston,BC/Prince George Spruce Kings) at 2:26 of overtime.

Blair Robertson (Outlooks,SK/Quesnell Millionaires) got the win for RMC stopping 30 of the 36 shots he faced while RMC fired 50 shots at the Concordia net.  RMC went 3 for nine on the power play including two goals on 5 on 3 advantages.  The RMC Penalty kill managed to kill 7 of 8 calls against the Paladins.

Offensively Paul Bradley led RMC with 2G and 3A for 5 points while Roman Stutek, 2G and 1A and Nick Cregan 1G and 2A each tallied 3 points
