U of T 5  RMC 3    stats

The Paladins dropped their second game against the U of T Varsity Blues in as many weeks as they special teams units proved to be the difference in a 5-3 loss on Saturday night.

The Paladins hoped to come out strong as they tried to secure their first place finish and did as they opened the scoring with
Dion Lahodas (Kamloops, BC/Merritt Centennials) first goal of the night on the power play at 7:47.  The U of T tied the game at 1 with a power play marker of their own at 9:13 of the first.  The Paladins had a chance to bury the Varsity Blues as they were on the power play for almost six straight minutes to end the first including a 5 on 3 advantage.  The inability to score on those power play opportunities was the turning point of the game, as the Varstiy Blues headed into the first intermission tied at 1.

RMC restored their one goal lead as Lahoda connected at 2:19 of the second.  However after that point the Blues netminder Brian Dunnigan who missed the first half of the season with an injury shut out RMC.  The Varsity Blues scored four goals in the period, two on the power play, one short handed and one even strength to take a 5-2 lead into the third.

In the third
Nick Cregan (Ottawa, On/Cumberland Grads) scored his second goal in as many games to finish the scoring for the game.

The Paladins went 1 for 11 on the power play giving up the one short handed goal while they killed 6 of 9 short handed situations

RMC outshot the U of T 42-31, but the Varsity Blues got the win thanks to the heroics of Dunnigan.  Since his return to the line up the U of T is 6-0 and have moved to within one point the Queens Golden Gales, who lost 5-4 in OT against Ryerson on Saturday.

In the OUA Mide East RMC sits in first, 5 points up on Queens with a 7-9-5 record for 19 points.  Queens is 6-13-1-1 for 14 points while the U of T is at 6-11-1 for 13 points and two games in hand.
