RMC 8 Ryerson 1 stats

The RMC Paladins got a much needed win with an 8-1 thumping of the Ryerson Rams and a huge favour from the U of T Varsity Blues to remain atop the OUA Mid East Division.

At home the Paladins took it to the Rams dominating in all facets of the game getting goals from eight different skaters.  In the first despite out shooting Ryerson 13-7, RMC could only manage a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Pat McDonald (Calgary, AB/Olds Grizzlys) and Greg McDonald (Ottawa, On/South Ottawa) scored just under three minutes apart to stake RMC to a 2-0 lead.  The Rams cut the lead in half at 15:53 when they connected on the power play.

In the second it looked a little worrisome for the Paladins as the Rams kept things close for almost the entire frame.  That was until RMC broke it open with two goals in the last minute and a half coming 30 seconds apart.
Ryan Thebeault (Sydney, NS/Riverview Redmen HS) notched his first goal of the season at 18:24.  Fifty-four seconds later Matt Fetzner (Royston,BC/Weyburn Redwings) stretched the lead to 4-1 going into the third.

In the third the Rams self-destructed with undisciplined play, which led to an RMC scoring barrage on the power play.  At 4:44 of the frame
Luke Pierce (Merritt BC/Vernon Vipers) scored 23 seconds into a power play.  Shortly after the goal there was a large scrum with netted some offsetting minors and two 10-minute misconducts.  After Ryerson was called for goaltender interference and then was assessed another minor for arguing the call, Dion Lahoda (Kamloops, BC/Merritt Centennials) scored on the 5 on 3.  Roman Srutek (Kanata, On/Kanata Stallions) scored an even strength goal after coming out of the penalty box and then Adam Purdy (Stittsville, On/Kanata Stallions) rounded out the scoring at 16:44 on the power play.

Offensively
Brent Maurice (Alymer, PQ/Shawville Pontiacs) 3 A and Purdy 1G 2A led RMC, while Thebeault, Greg McDonald and Josh Fudge (Nepean, On/Nepean Raiders) each chipped in two points.  Blair Robertson (Outlook, SK/Quesnel Millionaires) was back in net to notch the win as he stopped 22 of 23 shots he faced.  On special teams RMC was 3 for 9 while Ryerson was 1 for 3.

With the win RMC moves to 6-8-5 for 17 points and four points up on the Queens Golden Gaels.  The Gales were beaten 2-1 on a last minute goal by the U of T Varsity Blues.  With the win the U of T moves to 4 points behind Queens.

These same four teams play each other again next weekend as RMC and Queens travel to Toronto on Friday and Saturday night.

U of T 4 RMC 2     stats

The Paladins were beaten by the lowly U of T Varsity Blues 4-2 Friday night, continuing their slump in the second half of the season.  After a 1-0 loss to Queens and blowing a 4-0 lead and having to settle for a 4-4 in a second game with Queens, the Paladins were hoping to rebound against the U of T but were unable to do so at home.

In a tight checking first period the U of T took a 1-0 lead at 18:38 on an even strength goal shortly after shutting down the RMC powerplay.  The Paladins fought back to tie the game at one in the second period when
Dion Lahoda (Kamloops, BC/Merritt Centennials) scored 17 seconds into a power play.  The U of T regained their one goal lead two minutes later however the Paladins managed to tie it 2-2 on Paul Bradleys (Calagary, AB/Canmore Eagles) unassisted goal.

With the score tied at 2 after forty minutes RMC hoped to pull away in the third but ran into penalty trouble mid way through the period.  The U of T scored the game winner at  12:07, 12 seconds into a power play and then added an insurance marker three and a half minutes later on a 5 on 3 power play goal.

The Paladins were outshot 34-29 in the game including 16-12 in the decisive third period.
Matt Hartney (Burnaby, BC/ University of Saskatchewan) took the loss evening his record to 1-1 on the season.  The RMC power play went 1-4 on the power play  while they allowed 2 power play goals against in 8 chances.

The Paladins hope to turn around their fortunes as they take on the winless Ryerson Rams tomorrow in a key matchup.  The Rams are coming of a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of the Queens Golden Gaels.  The Queens win combined with the RMC loss, narrows RMCs lead to 2 points in the race for first.  RMC has a 5-8-5 record good for 15 points while Queens sits at 6-11-1 for 13 points.
