RMC 3 Ottawa 2 stats The RMC Paladins rebounded from the lopsided loss against UQTR last weekend, with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Gee Gees at home on Friday night. In a rough and tumble affair that featured 76 penalty minutes given to the Paladins and 105 minutes assessed to Ottawa, RMC managed to get their fourth win of the season. The Paladins got goals from Paul Bradley (Calgary, AB/Canmore Eagles), his third of the season, Nick Cregan (Ottawa, On/Cumberland Grads), his second and Jamie Routledge (Calgary, AB/Nelson Leafs) his first of the season. Ottawa opened the scoring at 10:34 to take a 1-0 lead but the Paladins fought back to tie it when Bradley scored with just over a minute and a half left in the frame. In the second Cregan gave RMC the lead with a 5 on 3 power play marker at 5:18, but the Paladins could not extend the lead despite some power play opportunities. Ottawa tied the game with a marker at 14:26. The RMC power play did an excellent job during a 5-minute penalty kill to keep the game tied at 2 apiece. The second period was a testy twenty minutes as 149 penalty minutes were handed out including two fighting majors and several game miscounducts. Both teams settled down in the third, and Routledge notched the game winner at 13:23 of the period and RMC held on even killing a penalty with 1:10 left in the game. The Gee Gees out shot RMC 37-34 over the game but stellar goaltending proved to be the difference for the Paladins. Offensively Tyler McTavish (London, On/St Thomas Stars) led the Paladins with 2 assists. In other OUA Mid East action, UQTR thumped Ryerson 11-0 out shooting them 81-21, including a whopping 36-4 in the third period, Concordia beat the U of T 7-4 and Queens was blanked 5-0 by McGill. The RMC win combined with the other three teams losses stretches RMC�s lead to 6 points over Queens in the race for first 5 Nov UQTR 8 RMC 1 stats The Paladins winning streak came to a crashing halt on Saturday afternoon as they were trounced 8-1 by the UQTR Patriotes in Three Rivers. After a solid effort last night in Montreal, the Paladins came out sluggish in the opening period. Before the game was eight minutes old RMC was down 3-0. UQTR jumped on a RMC miscue and netted a shorthanded goal at 1:10 of the opening period. After two goals in 50 seconds the lead was three nothing After the third goal Matt Hartney (Burnaby, BC/ University of Saskatchewan) replaced starter Blair Robertson (Outlook, Sk/Quesnel Millionaires) in an effort to spark the Paladins. The move seemed to pay off a bit as the Paladins managed to fire 20 shots at the UQTR net but they could not solve All Star goalie Danny Dallaire. UQTR went into the dressing room after adding another short handed goal to make it 4-0. The second period saw UQTR stretch the lead to 6-0 with goals at the 5:35 mark and at 13:36. After going down 7-0 Matt Fetzner (Royston, BC/Weyburn Redwings) notched RMC�s loan marker at 16:57. UQTR then rounded out the scoring on the power play with three seconds left in the game. RMC hopes to shake off this loss when the return home to Kingston for two key tilts next weekend as they host the Ottawa Gee Gees and the McGill Redmen. The Paladins hope to extend their lead back to 6 points over Queens after Queens defeated Concordia 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. 4 Nov RMC 4 Concordia 3 stats In another wide open offensive game the RMC Paladins extended their undefeated streak to four games with a 4-3 win over the Concordia stingers on Friday night in Montreal. Both teams came out flying for a combined 31 shots on net in the first period and Concordia was able to strike first with a power play marker at 12:47. RMC came back to tie the game when Josh Fudge (Nepean,On/Nepean Raiders) notched his third goal of the season at 18:57. The RMC power play then stretched the lead to 2-1 just 39 seconds into the first period when they took advantage of a 5 on 3 situation. Paul Bradley (Calgary, AB/Canmore Eagles) notched his second goal of the season. The Stingers came back with a vengeance as they tied the game just 36 seconds later while short handed and then took the lead at 2:54 of the second. RMC tied the game up at 13:54 when Tyler McTavish (London, On/St Thomas Stars) came out of the penalty box after serving two minutes for goalie interference. Captain Pat McDonald (Calgary, AB/Olds Grizzlies) got the game winner at 5:54 of the third with his second goal of the season. RMC then held onto the lead as Concordia took a bunch of undisciplined penalties and could not must an attack against RMC to tie the score. Leading the Paladins offensively were McTavish and Bradley, who both had 1G and 1A and defenseman Matt Fetzner (Royston, BC/Weyburn Redwings) who had 2 assists. Blair Roberston (Outlook, SD/ Quesnel Millionaires) was solid in net for his second straight victory. The RMC power play was 1 for 9 on the evening giving up a shorthanded goal while the penalty kill was 8 for 9. With the win RMC extended their lead to 6 points over Queen�s as the Golden Gaels were dumped 10-4 by UQTR. In other Mid East Games Toronto lost 6-3 against McGill and Ottawa beat Ryerson 6-4. RMC now travels to Three Rivers to face the UQTR Patriotes on Saturday afternoon. |
