McGill 2 RMC 0    Stats

The RMC Paladins dropped a 2-0 decision against the McGill Redmen in Montreal but managed to maintain their lead in the OUA Mid East Division.

The Redmen were coming off a 8-0 thumping of the Queens Golden Gaels where they set the CIS record for shutouts in a season with their eight in 17 games and carried it for their second shutout of RMC this season.

The game featured two fast skating hard checking teams in an evenly fought match.  RMC started out on the wrong foot earning a penalty 26 seconds in to the game but they killed it only to have McGill score the eventual game winner at 4:03 of the first.  The teams traded penalties in the first but could not take advantage of the special teams play.  RMC out shot McGill 11 7, but could not beat Mathieu Poitras.

The teams battled it out and there was no scoring until McGill iced the game with an empty net goal at 19:32 of the third to seal the win.

Matt Hartney (Burnaby, BC/University of Saskatchewan) played a stellar game in net stoping 24 of 25 shots taking the loss to go 1-2 on the season.  Both teams went 0 for 6 on the power play.

With the win McGill goes to 15-1-2 on the season while RMC goes three games under .500 for the first time this season at 7-10-5.  Despite the loss RMC maintained their hold on first place as Queens lost both their games this weekend, 8-0 to McGill and 8-0 to Ottawa.  Third place U of T lost their two games 7-4 against Concordia and 3-2 against UQTR halting their 6 game win streak.

With two weekends to go RMC remains in first 5 points up on Queens and 6 up on the U of T.  RMC has two games remaining, against Ottawa and Queens (the Carr-Harris Cup-) Queens has one game left and the U of T has 4, McGill, Ottawa and two against Ryerson.
