RMC 3 Toronto 2     stats      RMC Press Release

In a crucial game to secure their playoff spot the Paladins came up huge with a come from behind victory at home to the division leading University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon.

After coming off somewhat of a lackluster win against Ryerson on Friday night, RMC was hoping to come out strong on Sunday afternoon but that was not the case.  In an evenly fought first period RMC found themselves down 2-0 after twenty minutes.  The U of T scored two power play goals one minute apart at, 15:51 and 16:51, the first being a 5-3 advantage, to take the 2-0 lead into the dressing room at the first intermission.

During the intermission head coach Kelly Knobes must have had an awe inspiring speech as the Paladins came out storming and dominated the next forty minutes of play.  Although they out shot the U of T 14-4 in the second they could only manage one goal in the period.  Team captain Pat MacDonald notched a power play marker at 9:19 to bring RMC within one.  That score stood up for the period and RMC entered the third down by one.

RMC continued their dominating play in the third as they again out shot Toronto, this time it was 15-7.  Brent Maurice notched his second goal in as many games on the power play at 5:44 to even the score and bring the fans at Constantine Arena back to life.  RMC continued to pressure the Varsity Blues but could not get the third goal.  With overtime looming, Luke Pierece netted the game winner at 18:18 to send the crowd into a frenzy.  The U of T pulled their goalie in attempt to send the game into overtime but Blair Robertson shut the door to seal the victory.

RMC out shot the U of T 36-18 and went 2 for 10 on the power play while killing 5 of 7 short handed situations.  RMC was led by Captain Pat MacDonald who notched a goal and an assist and Dion Lahoda who had two helpers.

With the victory, RMC now has 19 points a new school record, 2 points back of the U of T and they remain 5 points up on Queens who beat Ryerson 11-4.  RMC has a weekend off in league play as they head down to West Point for the annual West Point game on 5 Feb at 7:00 pm EST, the game will be broadcast live on the NHL Network in Canada and CSTV in the US.

RMC 5  Ryerson 4
    stats

RMC gained two points on Queens and kept pace with the University of  Toronto with a 5-4 win over the Ryerson Rams in Toronto on Friday night.

RMC came out storming in the first period as they dominated the play out shooting Ryerson 15-8 and stormed out to a 3-1 lead.  Luke Pierece opened the scoring 20 seconds into the first on a nifty effort with Ian Miller.  Ryerson came back to tie it a minute and a half later.  RMC then took control of the game by scoring two power play goals three minutes apart.  Louis Charland netted both the first at 7:52 and then his second at 10:50.

In the second they the Paladins their guard down a bit as Ryerson fought back to make a game of it out shooting RMC 14-11.  Ryerson made it a one goal game 3:52 into the period but Ian Miller restored the two-goal lead with a booming point shot at 5:28.  Ryerson again pulled to within one on a power play goal at 7:36.  The second period ended with RMC leading 4-3.

In the third RMC again dominated play as the team traded goals to make it a 5-4 final score.  RMC had quite a scare however as they faced some solid goaltending from the Ryerson netminder.  Ryerson tied the game at 8:36 on a power play goal and it looked like RMC might allow Ryerson their first point of the season as the game neared the end.  That was not to be as Brent Maurice secured the victory with a power play goal with 1:31 left to play.  With the goalie pulled for the extra attacker Ryerson could not net the tying goal sending them to their 17th straight loss.

For the evening RMC out shot Ryerson 40-31.  Tyler Middlebrook led the Paladins with 3 points while Ian Miller, Brent Maurice, Louis Charland and Dion Lahoda each chipped in with two points.

The win coupled with a 6-2 U of T victory over Queens leaves RMC alone in second place with 17 points, 4 behind Toronto and 5 up on Queens
