Queens 3 RMC 2 stats RMC could not increase their lead over the Queens Golden Gales as they dropped a 3-2 decision on Sunday afternoon in the second game of a home and home series this weekend. RMC ran into some solid goaltending as Queens sat their number one goalie Matt Kenny and Queens was rewarded for that decision despite being out played and out shot 38-27. The game featured some great end to end action and scoring opportunities as the officials allowed both teams to play a game and called limited penalties, a rarity between these two teams especially in back to back games. Queens took advantage of one of these rare calls to take a 1-0 lead at 15:28 of the first period. Despite out shooting Queens 15-10 in the period RMC could not bury the puck. RMC tied the game at 11:32 of the second period when captain Pat MacDonald notched his second goal of the weekend series. Queens however scored two more goals in the period, one at 15:36 and the second , a power play goal, with 24 seconds left in the period. The two goals gave the Gaels a 3-1 lead after two. RMC came storming out in the third again taking the play to Golden Gales in the third. Jamie Routledge brought RMC to within one at 9:59 but the Paladins could not get the tying goal despite the pressure. With the series split this weekend, RMC maintains a 3 point lead on Queens in the race for second place. Queens has two games in hand with those games being against UQTR and Concordia while RMC is in West Point. With the loss today RMC falls 4 points back to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues as the U of T swept a weekend series against Ryerson winning 9-6 and 8-5. 22 Jan RMC 5 Queens 3 stats RMC gained an impressive and valuable win in Saturday�s Carr-Harris Cup as they defeated their cross-town rivals the Queens Golden Gales 5-3 on Saturday afternoon in the annual Carr-Harris Cup. Not only did RMC win the Carr-Harris trophy but they gained an essential two points in their drive for second place in the OUA Mid East. The game started off a little slowly for RMC as they held the majority of the play in the first period but could not get a puck past Queens netminder Matt Kenny. Queens was able to take a 1-0 lead 13:02 into the first with a powerplay goal. The first period ended with RMC leading Queens in shots on net 11-9 but trailing 1-0. The second period did not start off in a good way for the Paladins as queens opened their lead to two goals with a power play goal one minute into the second period. Queens then opened up a 3-0 lead at 10:43. That third goal woke up the Paladins as it looked like they may lose ground in the race to secure the playoff spot. Less than a minute after the 3-0 goal Dion Lahoda netted a power play marker to get the crowd and RMC back into the game. Tyler Middlebrook got the crowd on their feet again as he notched a shorthanded goal at 19:25 of the second period. Middlebrooks 17th goal of the season brought RMC to with in one. The second period again saw RMC out shoot Queens this time by a 14-11 margin. The third period saw the Paladins come out and dominate the game. The period opened up with Queens Jamie Brock getting a checking from behind penalty. Louis Charland netted a powerplay goal at the 2 minute mark tying the game at three. With RMC continuing to dominate the play captain pat MacDonald netted the go ahead goal with some hard work down low at 15:49. With the crowd going wild RMC continued to press the play. Queens pulled their goalie with just over a minute left and Louis Charland sealed the victory with his second goal of the game into the empty net. RMC out shot Queens 37-27 during the game and went 2 for 5 on the power play and killed 3 of five penalties. With the win RMC still trails the overall Carr-Harris series 11-7-1. RMC now travels across the causeway to face Queens tomorrow at Jock Hardy Arena at 1400 hrs in the second game of the home and home series. |
