U of T 3 RMC 2 OT stats In a key match up to in the race for first the Paladins dropped a disappointing 3-2 OT decision against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Sunday afternoon at home. RMC came out perhaps a little too eager in the first as they were whistled for an interference penalty just 1:38 into the game. U of T took advantage of the opportunity and notched a power play goal at 2:39 to take a 1-0 lead. RMC stormed back to tie the game a little over 3 minutes later with Tyler Middlebrook scoring at 5:50. The second period saw the U of T pick up the play and dominate. In the period they out shot RMC 16-6 but could not solve RMC goalie Blair Robertson who made several spectacular saves including opportunities on a U of T 5 on 3, situation early in the period. In the third Roman Srutek brought the crowd to its feet when he blew a shot past the U of T goaltender at 14:11 to give RMC a 2-1 lead. The lead was short lived however, as a minute and 5 seconds later the U of T tied the game up again. Neither team could net the game winner in regulation and they headed to overtime where the teams traded scoring opportunities before the U of T notched the game winner at 2:49 spoiling RMCs hopes to move into first this weekend. On the day RMC was out shot 38-22 and rode the stellar goaltending of Blair Robertson and an overall great team effort against the Varsity Blues to battle a solid hockey team and some unsupportive home refereeing. RMC was 0 for 3 on the power play and killed 8 of 9 penalties. The Paladins maintain a hold of second place in the division with the OT loss. They are now two points back of Toronto and 3 points up on Queens and they play the U of T two more times in the second half. RMCs next games are a back to back meeting against Queens on Saturday at home at 1400 and Sunday at Queens at 1400. Saturdays game marks the annual Carr-Harris game. This is a crucial weekend for RMC as they hope to distance themselves from Queens in the race for second place in the division and secure themselves a playoff spot. 15 Jan RMC 8 Ryerson 3 stats RMC picked up a key win in an effort to take over first place in the OUA Mid East on Saturday afternoon. At home, in front of a strong supporting home crowd, RMC picked on the winless Ryerson Rams enroute to a 8-3 win. The win allowed RMC to keep pace with the University of Toronto who defeated Queens 5-2 on Saturday, and move 4 points ahead of Queens for second place. The first period started off with a scare as Ryerson opened the scoring at 2:17 of the first but then RMC applied massive pressure against Ryerson. Unfortunately despite firing 21 shots on the Ryerson goalie RMC could only mange a late goal by Jamie Routledge with just over a minute to go in the period to tie the game at one. RMC outshot Ryerson 21-9 in a penalty filled first period. The late goal sparked the Paladins as they took advantage of a chippy undisciplined Ryerson team and scored a power play goal 1:32 into the second period. RMC then blew the game open with two goals in 44 seconds, Tyler Middlebrooks second goal and a goal from Roman Srutek. Middlebrook rounded out the RMC scoring with his hat trick goal at 15:45 of the period to give RMC a 5-1 lead. Ryerson managed to get a shot past Blair Robertson at 16:05 to pull with in three. The second period was again filled with chippy undisciplined play including a fight, something of a rarity in the OUA. RMC outshot Ryerson 19-15 in the second. Ryerson opened the scoring in the third with a power play goal 3:02 into the period to make a game of it but that was as close as they got. RMC poured it on in the third outshoting Ryerson 17-7 and netting 3 goals. Pat MacDonald scored at 10:44 and then Tyler Middlebrook netted this fourth power play goal of the contest at 13:14. Adrian Hartley closed out the scoring nine seconds later at 13:23 RMC out shot Ryerson 57-31 in the game and went 5 for 13 on the power play while killing 6 of 7 shorthanded situations. This game was key for the Paladins. It broke a 7 game losing skid while keeping place with the University of Toronto and pulling ahead of Queens. RMC now has another key game as they face off tomorrow against the U of T. |
