UQTR 4 RMC 3 OT    stats

RMC suffered another heartbreaking loss in their fifth straight ovetime game on Saturday afternoon against UQTR.  RMC battled back to force UQTR into overtime but lost with less than two seconds left in the overtime period.

RMC dominated in a rough and tumble first period but were down 2-1 after twenty minutes of play.  UQTR opened up the scoring with a short handed goal at 4:13 of the first but RMC responded with a power play goal from Adrain Hartley at 6:43.  Less than two minutes later however UQTR took the lead again and escaped the first period up 2-1.  RMC outshot UQTR 12-6 but could not get any bounces on their power play opportunities.

The second period saw UQTR outshoot RMC but the team traded power play goals.  RMCs Roman Srutek tied the game at 9:41 but UQTR gained the lead again with 1:30 to go in the second with their own power play goal.  Despite being outshot 15-10 RMC continued to take the play to the Patriotes.

In the third RMC evened up the game 46 seconds into the frame with a goal from Nic Cregan.  The teams traded scoring opportunites but could not put the puck behind either goaltender as RMC outshot UQTR 13-9.  For the fifth straight time RMC gained a point and headed to overtime.

Overtime saw UQTR outshoot the Paladins 5-3 and score with less than two seconds left to gain the win and send RMC to their third straight overtime loss.  Despite the loss the Paladins gained a crucial point on the season and moved into a second place tie with the U of Toronto in the OUA Mid East and remain ahead of 3 of the four teams in the OUA Far East.

Tyler Middlebrook added to his point scoring streak with two assists to extend it to 5 games in which he has 10 points and continues to lead the OUA in scoring.  This undefeated streak marks the longest streak in which RMC has gone undefeated in Regulation Time in school history.

Guelph 3 RMC 2 OT
stats      RMC Press Release     Guelph Press Release

The Paladins were jinxed by a Halloween curse on Sunday afternoon as they played their fourth straight overtime game of the season.  Again the Paladins dominated the action on the ice but they could not collect the win.
After a first period where RMC dominated the play both teams came out scoreless.  In the second period RMC opened the scoring on the powerplay when Jeff Todd hammered home a rebound at 3:35 with assists from Tyler Middlebrook and Louis Charland.  In the second period RMC outshot Guelph 18-12.
RMC came out in the third flying but could not buy a bounce to increase their lead.  Guelph scored at the 9 minute mark to tie the game up.  This goal woke up the Paladins who continued to pounce on the Gryphons in an attempt to score the game winner.  The relentless pressure paid off as Tyler Middlebrook collected a loose puck at the blue line and went end to end and put the puck away on the deke on a beautiful individual effort.  After the goal a frustrated Gryphon tried to make Jeff Todd eat his stick and was assessed a five minute major for high sticking.  RMC could not buy a goal as the Gryphon goaltender made some brilliant saves to keep the score 2-1.  Guelph however bounced back with a nice tip in goal with 1:44 left in the game to tie it up.
In OT both teams went back and forth with Tyler McTavish having a breakaway but had the puck bounce off his stick which caught 3 RMC forwards deep in the Guelph end.  On the ensuing rush a Guelph point shot beat Blair Robertson who was screened on the play.
RMC played another solid game and had an excellent effort from all the skaters.  Tyler Middlebrook increased his scoring streak to four games and collected his 7th and 8th points of the season.  The duo of Pat McDonald and Tyler McTavish, continued their banging and aggressive forechecking to keep opponents off balance.  On defence Adrain Hartley had some good offensive rushes and Ian Miller and Duaine Fetzner both had solid games.  Blair Robertson was again solid in net and made several key saves.
