ARMY 6 RMC 1 stats Army Press Release Video Highlights NY Newspaper report In front of over 2800 fans in a sold out Tate Rink, Army defeated RMC 6-1 in the 74th meeting of these two teams. It was a game where RMC faced the wrath of NCAA refereeing and they could not muster their dominating forchecking with the constant parade to the penalty box.5 Feb The first period featured a decisive Army advantage due to the numerous penalties called. RMC was trying to adjust to the bigger ice surface and the different NCAA rules. None of the penalties were of a dirty or cheap nature but rather over exuberant play by both sides. RMC was out shot 16-4 in the period but the play was pretty even throughout the period. Blair Robertson made several key saves in the period while Brad Roberts from Army was only seriously tested once. That was on a 3-1 where Tyler McTavish fired a high hard shot that Roberts deflected over the glass. The game remained scoreless until Arym caught a fortunate break in their own zone. Catching a favorable bounce off the boards Army was able to break out 2 on 1 into the RMC zone. The RMC defenseman attempted to block the cross-ice pass but could not as it landed on Freshman Bryce Hollweg�s stick, who then fired a high shot over the shoulder of Blair Robertson who had no chance as he was coming across his crease. The Black Knights took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. RMC killed 4 of 4 penalties in the period and went 0 for 1 on the power play. The Paladins came out stronger in the second as teams traded shots and hits early however Army took advantage of some home country refereeing to score 3 power play goals in the period. RMC nailed with an extra minor during a melee started by Army beside the Army bench and on the ensuing power play Army took advantage. They shoved in a goalmouth scramble at 4:55 to take a 2-0 lead. It was Armys 5th power play of the night. The physical play increased when Army�s Seth Beamer ran Blair Robertson in the crease, however the home country ref decided to even things up on the calls. RMC then went on the power play a 5:47 when an Army player laid a vicious cross check on Luke Pierce. RMC took advantage of the power play with good work down low from Nick Creagan who got the puck out front to Dion Lahoda who banged in a loose puck to close the gap to one at 6:21. Seconds after the face-off RMC as assessed a questionable interference call whcich Army took advantage of when RMC could not clear the zone and the Army forward wrested a shot into the top corner. The three power play goals game 2:21 apart. The home country reffing continued as Adrian Hartley was assed a charging minor after he was taken down a slide into the Army goalie, minutes after Army roughed up Robertson. Army again too advantage as they scored early in the power play on a screened shot. Several missed Army calls and phantom RMC penalties ended the period which left RMC captain Pat MacDonald a 10 minute misconduct while Robertson was tripped again and Luke Pierce was kneed at the end of the period. RMC was given an opportunity to close the gap to start the third but they could not connect on the power play. After the power play for the longest stretch of 5 on 5 hockey RMC had a couple of scoring chances but were stopped by Roberts. With a 3 goal lead Army played conservative hockey dumping the puck out any chance they got. A harmless 2 on 2 turned into Army�s 5th goal when the trailer on the play fired a puck up over Robertson. Up by 4 Army lulled the crowd to sleep and managed to score their 6th goal at 9:03 after a scramble at the hash marks. With the game out of reach the teams rested their star players to avoid injuries and focus on the playoff run in their league play. The win marks Army�s 9th straight at home and they now lead the series 39-29-6. |
