Club Profile

The idea of forming the Rotary Club of Mandaluyong Uptown was initiated by then District Governor Fernando "Nanding" A. Pedrosa. He appointed PP Ofring Consolacion of RC Mandaluyong West as DGSR. Cesar Paras, Gene Ramos and Pat Ferrer of Mandaluyong West became the core group of the prospective club. The first meeting was held at the Board Room of the PNCC on April 14, 1986 with prospective members in attendance together with DGSR Ofring Consolacion and District Extension Chair Tony Pascual. The group became provisional club on April 30, 1986 and the first set of officers was elected on June 18, 1986. Rotary Club of Mandaluyong Uptown was formally accepted as a member of Rotary International on June 30, 1986, thereby making it the 7th club in the Mandaluyong Zone.
Charter presentation was held at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club on October 13, 1986. Of the original 27 charter members, 21 were inducted into Rotary plus three more new members.
The club initially held its weekly meetings at the Mandarin Hotel but later moved the venue to Metro Club in Makati. They had its first taste of crisis in the following year with the inability of PE Jake Tolosa to assume office. Out-going President Czar Paras was prevailed upon to continue as president together with the new set of officers and directors. The club membership dwindled to 14. In May 1988, Pres. Czar Paras and his family migrated to Australia, so VP-PE Kit Sanz was forced to take over. Kit Sanz assumed the presidency only up to October 1988. His group decided to transfer to District 381 to become the core group of RC Makati Metro.
IPDG Tino Cacanindin and DG Ruf Luna were able to convince 12 Rotarians led by IPP Precioso L. San Juan from Mandaluyong West to form the nucleus of the dead club to resurrect it. To formalize the group's entry into RC Mandaluyong Uptown, the new officers were inducted into office on December 20, 1988. Inducted were the following:

President L. San Juan
PE / VP / Secretary Rey F. Fuentes
Treasurer Albert Yu
Directors Ed C. Bartolata
Ding Bantayan

Abe Rivera
Joey Mangubat
Frankie Mapalo
Narcing De Belen
