BURHAN YAYINEV:
PRODUCERS OF TURKISH-MADE TINTIN ADVENTURES!
Burhaneddin ener's Burhan Yaynevi (Burhan Publication House) is notable for producing several Turkish-made b&w Tintin adventures, alongside b&w traced editions of original stories.
Burhan Yaynevi began publishing its weekly unlicensed
Tenten comics in 1961. When the run of original stories was depleted, the publishers apparently ordered the production of new stories! The first one, 'Istanbulda' (In Istanbul), is a 'collage' (!) of traced editions of various Herge stories edited into a new story-line. The rest appear to be indinigous though some seem to incorporate material traced from non-Tintin comics.
The autorship and art of these Turkish-made adventures is unknown. However, Ali Avni ne (1926-82) was the translator of Herge's stories and he might have had an input, especially taking into consideration that he was also an author of children's stories. Altan Deliorman was credited for the "art works" in Burhan's comics from early 1960s which meant cover illustrations and/or the tracing job, so he is a likely candidate for drawing the Turkish-made adventures as well.
Herge's agent in Turkey did indeed reportedly sued ener, but amazingly lost their case in court, on basis of
Tintin's and Tenten's differences of title and format! Tenten continued at least into late 1960s. Other titles put out by Burhan Yaynevi in early 1960s include a short-lived Betman (Batman) comics and a comics for juvenile readers, Kk Fato (1962), which featured Popeye and Katzenmjer Kids among others, as well as some obscure comics such as Korkusuz Bill (western?), Harika Adamlar (western) and Karaahin (pilots). In 1965, Burhan Yaynevi also published a Turkish medieval heroics comics, Bahadr. Among the last comics published by ener are Tarzan (Akim) from late 1960s and the short-lived King from 1972
