The brand
new seven-inch single The Gentle Soul b/w I Don't Wanna Wake
Up by Helsinki foursome Kevin is out on the streets now. It
shows a band of genuine versatility. The energetic garage pop
often delivered by Kevin now gives space for pop psychedelia
heavily influenced by the 1960's. Here Kevin draw inspiration
from not only bands like The Byrds and Crosby, Stills &
Nash but also from the struggle against the northern darkness
of their homeland.
Kevin are a fine example of how a group of young men grow together
and end up like brothers. Good humor shines through and guitars
buzz. Things are shared, no matter what happens. The lads met
in their former hometown of Tampere. They organized clubs and
parties until it was time to put together a new band. Drummer
Antti Alén had always wanted to play in a band called
Kevin which meant the first inevitable matter had already been
sorted out. The guys had all played in indie bands before Kevin
and they could easily dig each other's music. That helped Kevin
basically to form itself.
Kevin started
their recording career with two self-financed ep's, You Can
Call Me Kev (2001) and The Sound Your Eyes Can Follow (2002).
The former triggered a vast interest within the underground
rock scene in Finland and was aired frantically by alternative
shows on both nation-wide and local radio stations. On The Sound
Your Eyes Can Follow Kevin found their distinct voice which
among other things resulted in getting nominated as one of "the
hopes for 2003" by Soundi, the biggest rock mag in the
country. The band also realized they really loved playing gigs.
That became the driving force in Kevin's activity. Live Kevin
are action-packed with positive energy. The air is thick with
ripping guitars. The dynamic that this band create live is phenomenal.
Songs range from three-minute pop bursts to meditative epics.
September
5th, 2003 saw the release of another Kevin single, Straighten
My Head b/w You're On Fire. This single was cd-only on the Gashopper
label. The debut album will follow in the spring of 2004.
