Finally.
That's the word to use when talking about Boomhauer's debut
release. This Turku-based trio has been gigging locally, and
most successfully, for a couple of years and dropping jaws every
single time. The audiences (no matter where they're coming from
musically) have been struck by a groovy, rockin' and rollin',
entertaining, energetic and plain amazing show that simply spells
F-U-N. Short, to-the-point 90 second songs with witty lyrics
about your classic rock'n'roll themes (always tongue-in-cheek,
never rude or studid, despite being horny and sometimes downright
sleazy) played frantically one after another and spiced up by
sympathetic and sincere near-stand up comedy banter by the charismatic
band leader Saku Krappala between the songs. People have been
astonished to learn these guys don't have a record out. Now
they do. Finally.
Boomhauer's
music loans from the best of ingredients for a hot and sweaty
garage rock'n'roll experience: wild redneck country punk, pelvis-cracking
burning soul, post-Generation X white boy blues and raunchy
garage rock. All that performed with a smile and a sincerity
beyond belief. These three boys from next door (in addition
to Krappala, bassist Marko Hongisto and drummer Pasi Soljala)
sure look and act humble, but beware or they rock your pants
off before you can say.
Mr. Krappala,
an ex-classroom clown and an entertainer extraordinaire, has
the fire that you need to be a great performer. He need that
attention, demands it and makes the best of it. If you've got
a chance, go and see this stetson-wearing, nonsense-talking,
energy-filled freakshow of a guy…If you don't have a chance,
then here is the second best thing, a dirty vinyl record, doing
its best to recreate some of that live magic.
